Fabian Moreau’s potential absence leaves door open for Jimmy Moreland and Greg Stroman

There’s still one week left in the preseason, but the Washington Redskins are already in regular-season form when it comes to injury report speculation.

Last week, Redskins cornerback Fabian Moreau was ruled out of action with an ankle injury. He sat out of Thursday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons and was seen with a protective boot on his foot afterward, which led to a litany of questions. Mainly, who’s next in line?

On Friday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden told the media that Moreau could potentially miss up to a few weeks of the regular season, but they won’t know more until further testing can be done. His next scheduled checkup is on Tuesday.

Subscribing to the ‘next-man-up’ philosophy, it is likely that either Greg Stroman or rookie Jimmy Moreland will fill in for Moreau if he is to miss any time. Stroman has more experience in the Redskins’ scheme, but Moreland has been impressive so far this summer, and he has quickly turned into a fan favorite in Washington.

Either way, it appears that the Redskins will be playing a man-down to start the season. Some things never change.
