"F1" movie sequel in the works? Here's what has been said so far

With the success of the F1 movie, it is no surprise that a sequel is already being discussed. Director Joseph Kosinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Apple CEO Tim Cook have all confirmed that talks about a sequel have already taken place.

The Brad Pitt-led film reached $631.5million at the global box office and has today been released on Apple TV, allowing subscribers to now watch the movie at no extra cost.

The film follows former Formula 1 driver Sonny Hayes (Pitt) as he returns to the championship with struggling team APXGP alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. The film also boasts seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton as an executive producer.

What has been said about the F1 sequel so far?

Joseph Kosinski, director

"We're in that stage of just kind of dreaming up what that next chapter for Sonny Hayes would be and for APXGP," Kosinski explained to Variety in November 2025.

"But, you know, based on the reaction from around the world to this movie, it's something that people wanna see and I'd be happy to go back and do it because we had so much fun making this one."

Tim Cook, Apple CEO

"It's definitely something that's being talked about," Cook said in conversation with Variety at the Emmys in September 2025. "It's been such a huge summer blockbuster for us. We're so proud of it.

"The talent involved are such next level, and Brad [Pitt] did such a wonderful job acting in it. We're super proud of it, and we can't wait to bring it to the surface."

Jerry Bruckheimer, producer

"We met with Lewis Hamilton a couple of weeks ago, and started talking about some ideas," Bruckheimer told Forbes in November 2025.

"We're in London right now, and we've screened the movie twice every night for the last three nights. We have the audience in there, and the first question I ask them is, 'How many of you have not seen this movie?' 80% of the hands go up, and it's unbelievable. The other 20% have seen it several times. People that haven't seen it say, 'Oh, it's not my kind of movie.' It is your kind of movie. It's emotional, fun, and it's a great night out at the theatre."
