The stage is set for another engrossing battle between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris at the Dutch Grand Prix today as Formula 1 resumes after its summer break.
It is just under four weeks now since the last outing at the Hungaroring, where Norris held off a late battle with Piastri to close the gap on his McLaren team-mate at the world championship summit to just nine points with 10 races still to go this season.
It was the Briton’s third victory in the last four races to follow successes at the Red Bull Ring and on home soil at Silverstone, giving him real belief that he can now overhaul Piastri to go on and win a maiden title.
Norris - who fought back to beat Max Verstappen in this race last year - boosted his confidence further with a dominant showing in practice at the Circuit Zandvoort on Friday, finishing top in both FP1 and FP2 as Piastri ran in third behind Fernando Alonso.
There was plenty of incident during practice, with talking points galore and the second session red-flagged twice after heavy crashes involving Lance Stroll and Alex Albon.
However, Norris will need to produce something special on Sunday after he was later pipped to pole position by a blistering final lap from Piastri in qualifying. Verstappen was the best of the rest.
