Police in Wishaw have cracked down on rogue traders and bogus workmen during an extensive operation.
Operation Ferrous was carried out within Wishaw as part of our response to instances of rogue traders and bogus workmen operating in the local area.
These criminals target the elderly and vulnerable people within our communities by presenting as legitimate businesses and taking cash for work which is either never carried out or completed to a poor standard.
The operation involved working with various partners including Road Policing, the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency and Trading Standards to engage with drivers and vehicles using the roads.
Alongside Trading Standards, officers offered advice and information to those operating businesses whilst DVSA carried out examinations on vehicles.
As a result of the operation prohibition notices were issued to eight vehicles.
These notices, issued due for dangerous defects on the vehicles, allow the DVSA to remove them from the road until the defects are repaired.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : “Over the coming months we will continue our focus on bogus workers and ask that our communities continue to report anything suspicious to police.
“We would always advise that people think before allowing anyone into your home, in particular cold callers, claiming to be from the local council or utilities companies.
“Don’t be afraid to ask for ID and verify this with the company if necessary. If in doubt, keep them out.”
