Explosives, detonator found in Sydney home

The bomb squad was called to a southeast Sydney home after police found a suspicious case. (AAP)

A man will face court after police seized a pistol, explosives and detonators from a home in Sydney's southeast.

Police say they were called to a domestic incident at a house in Chifley on Sunday morning where they arrested a 22-year-old man and took him to Mascot Police Station.

Officers then returned to the house around 2pm and seized a black pistol as well as a bag containing rounds of ammunition.

Police say they also found a suspicious case with wires protruding, prompting them to evacuate the premises and call in the bomb squad.

The suitcase was found to contain detonators and explosives. Specialist police separated the items and declared them safe.

Police seized further items including clothing and outlaw bikie gang paraphernalia.

The man has been charged with three domestic violence counts of stalking and intimidation as well as numerous firearm offences and possession and supply of explosives for unlawful purpose.

He was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court on Monday.
