Exclusive! Aashish Mehrotra aka Toshu of Anupamaa fame: 'I cried for the first time and Rupali ma'am motivated me'

Anupamaa's current track has been making heads turn for all the right reasons. The fans are not only invested in what will happen next in Kinjal and Toshu's marriage but have also called out the characters for their stellar performances.

In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, Toshu aka Aashish Mehrotra reveals that he cried out to Rupali Ganguly when he read the track before performing it on screen.

Talking about his reaction to the track he shares, "initially when I came to know about my track, I wasn't able to gulp it, it did take me a few days to accept that I am doing this track and I had a lot of questions as to how would I do it, how would the audience receive it and all. The makers have been extremely supportive and helpful, this was one of the most difficult tracks for me while performing. My major concern was how would the audience take the track and react to Toshu."

Further he said: "It was a big risk that I took and I thought this is my only opportunity as an actor to try my best to justify the character and it did touch the right chords and the feedback has really made me feel successful. We are finally addressing an issue that is not being discussed in families despite being a part of their lives for years."

Whether he was sceptical to take up the challenge, Aashish candidly reveals that, 'I was scared about it, everyday I was calling Ketki with so many doubts, how will I react to Kinjal?, will Toshu have a positive change or will the character turn completely negative? Will there be a grey shade to the character and so on. Somewhere, Toshu is telling a story that resonates with reality, there are such people in the society. If the person is talking about it then he is bad, while there are many who still continue to do the same. So, as a character I feel, Toshu is being honest about his feelings."

Reacting to his character in the current track, Ashish quips, 'It is a very difficult track and I really wish Toshu a lot of strength to fight his battle with Anupamaa and his family for Kinjal and their daughter. With the audience, it won't be a battle, it will be very suggestive and conversational. I wish him a lot of strength and focus for everything he shall pursue after the confrontation for his family."

We asked him about how has been performing these emotionally heavy scenes with Rupali Ganguly, "Honestly, after a very long time Toshu's track has returned as there were few tracks in between and the audience also needs to get hold of the multiple tracks. Suddenly, my track came and when I actually read the script I cried for the first time before doing the scene. Rupali ma'am saw me in tears and came to me, she just told me one thing that 'Just own it and do the scenes' it did take some time to register but I took my time, I went through the script numerous times and I delivered it with all the dedication and gladly I had time to do my homework before doing the scenes."

All my co-actors lauded my effort and I received a lot of love and praise from them, be it Sudhanshu sir, Bapuji, Ashlesha ma'am, Gaurav, everyone.

Aashish has been getting appreciation for his acting skills while performing those confrontation scenes of Toshu.
