Excitement as first Indian takeaway of its kind coming to part of Nottinghamshire

There is excitement in West Bridgford as a new takeaway - the area's first Indian delicatessen is ‘coming soon.’ Shoppers in the area have been speaking out about how once the shop is open, they will be supporting the new addition.

The Bombay Sweet Centre first opened in 1995 in Hyson Green but will be coming soon to Gordon Road in West Bridgford. It will occupy a shop was previously home to a hairdressers.

In West Bridgford, many people have said "there’s nothing like this" in the area and ‘"cannot wait" to try it. 73-year-old Samuel Mondle has lived in West Bridgford for 45 years and usually dining at restaurants on Central Avenue. He said: “I’m not going to complain about this new restaurant, to get food like this, I have to go all the way to Forest Fields.”

Samuel’s daughter lives in Windsor and visits from time to time. She too is excited for the new takeaway to open. Samuel continued: “My friends too are excited for this to open. I wish I knew the date it was opening.”

The takeaway will sell samosas, onion bhajis, an Indian breakfast, classic curries, pani puri and more. A part of the sign in the yet to open shop reads ‘fresh homely food, made everyday, just for you!’

Ryan Reid, 23 is a student. Living in West Bridgford he said: “I love Indian food so I cannot wait to try this, this is walking distance from my house too.”

Unlike Hyson Green, customers will be able to eat in. Ryan continued: “I work part time as well as being a student so sometimes, I like to treat myself on a Friday night, this looks great. I like the black and red colours together too.”

Rehan Mosafer has been living in West Bridgford for 40 years. Currently working at the Queen’s Medical Centre, she too is waiting for the new addition to the area’s food scene to open.

She said: “We’ve never had a place like this, there used to be a fish and chip down here but for the first time, there’s an Indian shop. You used to be able to get Indian food in Marks and Spencers and Iceland here.

“Because this is not near to busy Central Avenue, I hope people come here, I will be going here too!”
