Exactly what the Met Office has said about second heatwave in the UK

The UK has been sweltering in boiling temperatures during the latest heatwave with the mercury rising above 30C.

Skyrocketing temperatures and soaring heat has smashed June 14's record temperature for hottest day of the year.

The hottest day of the year now stands at 32C, with the heatwave lasting a week at the end of July.

But will another heatwave hit the UK in August?

The Met Office said that August will have ''drier conditions with sunny spells and ''showers or longer periods of rain.''

Giving its long range forecast for August, the Met Office said: "To begin the period, mixed conditions look likely to remain for a few more days, with no dominant weather type. Drier conditions with sunny spells are likely to be interspersed with showers or longer periods of rain.

"As we head further towards mid-August, it is most likely to become more settled with drier and warmer conditions developing. However, as with all long range forecasts, confidence become lower towards longer timescales."

Dr Owen Landeg, Scientific and Technical Lead at PHE, added: “Everybody can be affected by high temperatures and most people are aware of good health advice for coping with hot weather.

''As we experience the first hot weather episode of the year, it’s important for everyone to remember to adapt their behaviours. This is particularly important during the pandemic with many people self-isolating."
