As the country gears up for Level Five lockdown from midnight on Wednesday Ireland has seen yet another surge in coronavirus cases.
The latest figures revealed that a further 1,167 cases were reported while sadly 3 deaths were announced.
The country will be moved to strict lockdown measures from tomorrow in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19 as cases have spiralled in recent weeks.
From midnight people pubs, restaurants and bars will all be forced to shut their doors again and will only allowed to serve takeaway.
Meanwhile only essential retailers such as food and grocery stores will be permitted to open.
And people will only be allowed to travel within a 5km radius for their home for the duration of the six week lockdown.
Speaking on today's figures Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: "The behaviour of every individual is the most effective defence we have against the spread of COVID-19.
“Everyone needs to stay at home, other than for essential reasons. Follow the public health advice and treat everyone that you come into contact with as though they are a close contact of someone with COVID-19 – keep your distance, avoid meeting others.
"We are facing a big challenge, but we have faced this challenge before, and that means we know how to suppress this virus, by following the public health advice in everything we do.”
Of today's cases 263 were in Dublin, 142 in Meath, 137 in Cork, 86 in Cavan and the remaining 539 cases are spread across all remaining counties.
