Ex-Spurs defender names the transfer Christian Eriksen should complete this month

Former Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda has said that he 'wouldn't' be surprised' if Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen moves to Manchester United during the January transfer window.

The Danish international looks set for a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the window, after he failed to move away during the summer.

Eriksen made no secret of his desire to leave the club, with Real Madrid and Manchester United both linked with moves. However, that move never materialised and he stayed at Spurs for a further six-months.

The midfielder is out of contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season, meaning that Spurs risk losing him for nothing should they decide not to cash in during this window.

Chimbonda has said that Tottenham should cut their losses on Eriksen.

“Spurs should be cashing in on Christian Eriksen this month," he told Gambling.com.

“If they don’t, he’s going for free in the summer. Since he’s not playing well, they should just take any decent offer that comes in over the next few weeks.

“Even if it’s not the figure Daniel Levy has in mind, any sort of fee can be put towards a new signing. I’m sure a quick resolution can come about, just let him go and be done with it."

The former defender has also said that Eriksen may not get his preferred move.

"He’s hinted before that he wants to go and play for Real Madrid or Barcelona but I don’t think he’s going to get either move, they’re both stacked with riches in midfield already and I don’t see where he gets in," he added.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to Manchester United – they need to update their midfield and they could do a lot worse than Eriksen. That would be a better move for him because he’d play week-in-week out, whereas at Madrid or Barca he’d only be a back-up.

“Maybe he’ll wait until the end of the season, after the Euros perhaps, before weighing up his options.”
