Ex-Premier League and SPFL boss Jim Jefferies suffers serious heart attack playing golf

Former Hearts and Bradford City boss Jim Jefferies is recovering in hospital after suffering a serious heart attack.

The 68-year-old collapsed while playing golf at Gullane Golf Club on Monday.

Jefferies reportedly stopped breathing on his way to hospital, before being resuscitated by paramedics during the ambulance journey.

Jefferies is understood to be responding well to treatment, according to the Edinburgh Evening News, and was drinking tea and eating toast on Monday night.

Jefferies played over 300 games for Hearts during a 14-year playing career at Tynecastle, before spending two years at Berwick Rangers, ending his playing days in 1983.

After spells as manager at clubs including Berwick Rangers and Falkirk, he returned to Hearts as boss in 1995, leading them the Scottish Cup success in 1998.

In 2000 he moved south of the border to Bradford, replacing Chris Hutchings as manager of the then-Premier League club, but was unable to keep them from relegation.

He spent just 13 months at Valley Parade before resigning, with the club struggling in the second tier.

Further stints at Kilmarnock, Hearts and Dunfermline followed, with Jefferies finishing in management in 2014.

He has since worked for Edinburgh City in a sporting director capacity, where he remains with the League Two side.
