Ex-Manchester United star backs Roy Keane's withering David de Gea assessment as pressure builds on error prone keeper

Mark Bosnich has backed Roy Keane 's incredible rant over David de Gea's mistake against Spurs on Friday night.

The former Australia international had two spells under Sir Alex Ferguson and shared a dressing room with the permanently furious Irish legend.

Steven Berwijn ghosted past Harry Maguire with ease before de Gea made a mess of his rudimentary shot to allow Jose Mourinho's side the lead in London.

United managed to claw their way back for a draw and while Bosnich reckons the Spanish keeper has to go back to the drawing board and get the technical basics right

He told Sky: "What you see is what you get with Roy.

"However his delivery is taken by people, whether they like it or they don't, once he's on TV that's the way he's going to say it.

"The bottom line is he was right. It was a mistake.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also right in coming out and defending the player like he did. As a manager you have to defend your players publicly because if you don't you can lose that player and then a lot of people in the dressing room as well.

"Take away all the emotion and everything, from an analytical point of view, when a goalkeeper sets for a shot his feet can not be too far outside his shoulder width or that can create a lot of problems for you."

Keane racked up the viral hits on social media on Friday night with his blistering assessment of De Gea and Maguire.

He said: "I'm shocked. I'm shocked at that goal.

"I've watched a lot of football over the years and to give away that goal... I'm fuming.

"I can't believe that's Manchester United. Luke Shaw, heading the ball up in the air and then running forward... I am staggered at Maguire, how an international player can just get done like that - and I am sick to death of this goalkeeper.

"I would be fining him [De Gea] at half-time, there is no getting away from that. I would be swinging punches at that guy. That is a standard save for an established international goalkeeper.

"I am flabbergasted. Maguire and De Gea... I wouldn't even let them on the bus after the match. Get a taxi back to Manchester. Do your job. We're trying to get into the top four - never mind win trophies - shocking. I am disgusted. They should hang their heads in shame."
