Ex-Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge has Trabzonspor contract terminated after eight months

Daniel Sturridge has had his contract at Trabzonspor terminated by mutual consent after just eight months in Turkey.

The former Liverpool striker played just 13 times for the Super Lig club, and netted four goals. His final match came on February 22 in a 2-2 draw with Besiktas.

Sturridge put pen to paper on a three-year contract at Trabzonspor in August 2019, just two months after he was released at Liverpool.

The 30-year-old is unable to sign for another club on the continent until the transfer window reopens in June, when Sturridge will then become a free agent.

Premier League strugglers Aston Villa were among the clubs linked with a move for Sturridge in January, but a move to the MLS - likely David Beckham's Inter Miami - may now be on the cards.

Sturridge started his career at Manchester City before joining Chelsea.

After a short loan spell at Bolton the striker was snapped up by Liverpool in 2013, where he remained for six years.

In 2018 Sturridge represented West Brom on loan, but decided to leave the UK for a new challenge aboard following Liverpool's Champions League final triumph over Tottenham - the striker's second winner's medal in the competition, after Chelsea's 2012 victory.
