Ex-Hull City defender close to sealing move to Bolton Wanderers' League One rivals

Fleetwood Town are reportedly close to signing former Hull City defender Max Clark who had been linked with a move to Bolton Wanderers.

The 25-year-old is being let go after a second spell with the Tigers with a deal poised to run out this summer.

The club's retained list has confirmed that Clark will not be kept when his current contract runs out.

The left-back department is an area of the squad where Bolton would like reinforcements, with Declan John and Liam Gordon the recognised options in that area of the pitch.

John has joined the club on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell in the second half of last season where he established himself as Bolton's first choice left-back.

Following his release by Swansea City, he has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Before John's return was confirmed, Ian Evatt said that Wanderers 'definitely need a left-back or two.' as he assessed where Bolton are targeting reinforcements this summer transfer window.

It was previously reported that the Cod Army were keen on Clark's signature, and that Wanderers would be interested if John did not return to the club.

But now, it looks like the Fylde Coast side are closing in on their man, as journalist Alan Nixon reports that the Highbury club are close to a deal for Clark.

Wanderers are due to take on Fleetwood this upcoming season in League One and will discover the dates of their matches against the Cod Army and the rest of the division on Thursday, June 24, with the fixtures being revealed at 9am.
