Ex Hamilton Accies secretary and UEFA delegate to lead Junior title probe

Respected UEFA official and former Hamilton Accies secretary Scott Struthers will lead the independent investigation into the decision to award Junior side Auchinleck Talbot the West Premiership title.

The SJFA West Region Management Committee announced earlier this week that a probe would be launched following allegations they backtracked over a decision to null and void the Junior leagues and Struthers has been brought in to examine the evidence.

According to reports from Ayrshire Fitbaw, Colin Chisholm - Auchinleck Talbot's commercial director and then acting West Region president -  raised concerns that a failure to declare a league winner in the top flight may lead to issues nominating a Junior side to take part in next season's Scottish Cup.

Official West Region minutes show a decision was made to null and void the league on April 14, but a week later Auchinleck were awarded the league title.

Chisholm has since resigned from his role with the West Region and Struthers will now form his own panel to investigate the matter.

With the decision to award titles, Blantyre Victoria and Darvel were announced as co-champions of the West Region Championship, while Shettleston won League One and Johnstone Burgh were crowned League Two winners.

Experienced and meticulous, Struthers is a UEFA match delegate and stadium inspector with an in-depth knowledge of the game.

And last night, the West Region confirmed he would be heading up the investigation into the decision making process.

A statement read: "The WRSJFA Management Committee would like to confirm they have approached Scott Struthers to act as chairman of the independent panel which will review the discussions and decision process surrounding their announcement to declare winners of the WRSJFA leagues as opposed to declaring the 2019-2020 season as null and void.

"Mr Struthers has accepted the position.

"Scott Struthers has extensive knowledge of football in general and holds positions within FIFA and UEFA.

"He will form his own panel to witness and hear al the evidence, including interviewing the management committee if they wish to do so.

"Mr Struthers and his panel will also be challenged with investigating the circumstances surrounding the leaking of private and confidential information to the media.

"Together with identifying actions or inactions from club/clubs that may have breached the WRSJFA constitution and rules together with neglecting their responsibility and obligations to all other clubs within the association together with determining if any breaches of SJFA policies on confidentiality and data protection have been broken.

"The WRSJFA committee welcome this investigation and look forward to its findings."
