Ex-EastEnders star Samantha Womack shares update after undergoing breast cancer operation

Stage and screen actress Samantha Womack has shared an update with her fans after undergoing breast cancer surgery. The former EastEnders star took to her Instagram on Thursday (August 18) telling her followers she was "recuperating" following an operation.

The 49-year-old, who played Ronnie Mitchell in the BBC One soap from 2007 to 2017, revealed her diagnosis to her Twitter followers earlier this month. Taking to social media on Thursday, Samantha shared a photograph of a bowl of soup with her dog looking on in the background and said in the caption that she was "feeling loved and grateful", the Daily Star reports.

"Recuperating after breast cancer op," She wrote: "My love makes me turmeric and ginger in the morning and homemade butternut squash soup in the evening……. #feeling loved and grateful."

The actress was inundated with support from her fans and friends. A number of famous faces shared their "love" with the star including actress Denise Van Outen who wrote: "Sending you massive love" with a red heart emoji.

Gaby Roslin commented: "Sending you so much love" with four heart emojis. Tamzin Outhwaite added: "Sending lots of love and positive energy. xx".

Actor Tuwaine Barrett said: "Thinking of you Sam - sending all my love." and her former EastEnders co-star Emma Barton simply said 'love you' adding four heart emojis.

The update comes just over a week after Samantha had told her fans she had been diagnosed with breast cancer amid a touching tribute to the late Dame Olivia Newton-John - who died aged 73 at her home in Southern California earlier this month.

Following the news of Olivia's death, Samantha posted a throwback picture on August 9 alongside the Grease star, who had come to see Sam performing in the West End production. "This was the most magical of evenings," Samantha said on Twitter.

"Olivia and Chloe had come to see Grease in London and we had dinner together afterwards. I was so excited and in awe, she was my childhood. I now start my own battle with this disease and am left feeling deeply moved. #OliviaNewtonJohn."
