Everything we know after Liverpool schoolgirl shooting in Toxteth

A 15-year-old girl was shot at a bus stop in Toxteth.

Police and paramedics were called to Upper Warwick Street, at around 5.10pm, after it was reported multiple shots were fired.

At the scene they found the teenage girl had suffered serious injuries after being shot in the upper body.

She was rushed to hospital in a "critical" condition, however police said she is now in a "serious but stable condition."

Forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out, and are still ongoing, and police believe they have a better idea of what happened.

At a press conference, held at Merseyside police HQ yesterday, Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen said the force is doing 'everything possible' to bring those responsible to justice.

He also urged anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward.

What is the girl's condition?

Police have said that it is a 'miracle' that the girl survived after suffering 'devastating' injuries to her upper body.

Speaking at the press conference, DCS Mark Kameen said: "It is an absolute miracle and a credit to the NHS that this young woman has survived and I would urge anybody, and I will go into an appeal later in this briefing, to come forward with any information that they have that can lead to the identification of those people responsible for this callous and cowardly attack."

He added that when she was initially admitted to hospital her condition was described as 'critical' but thankfully after treatment she pulled through.

Her condition is now described as 'serious but stable.'

What happened?

It is being reported that multiple shots were fired by one or more people.

The shots are believed to have been fired by people who were riding bikes at the time of the incident.

Police are looking for people on 'up to four bikes' that were dressed in dark clothing, and wearing face masks or face coverings, like a balaclava.

Mr Kameen added: "Once the shooting had taken place, we believe that the bikes made off towards the North Hill Street and Princes Road area of the city, which is very close to where the attack took place."

A short time after the shooting, a 21-year-old man turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand. His injuries are not life threatening.

Police are keeping an 'open mind' but believe that these two shooting incidents are linked.

Have there been any arrests?

There have been three arrests in connection with the shooting so far.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life pn Tuesday, March 1.

A 27-year-old man from Toxteth, was arrested last night, on Wednesday, March 2, on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm without a certificate.

A 60-year-old man from Toxteth who had earlier been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has now been released under investigation.

However police wanted to stress that the investigation is still ongoing.

Mr Kameen added: "However, I do not want anything to think listening to this report, that because people have been arrested at this time, that they don't need to engage with us.

"Your information is vital and critical to the success of this investigation, please do not think that an early arrest means you do not need to give that information to us - your support is critical.

"We have had an overwhelming response from the public in this early stages of the investigation, and I would urge anyone who has any information at all to come forward and make contact with us as soon as possible."
