If you’re one to immediately check your phone the moment you wake up, you’re probably well aware that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement via an Instagram post this morning.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the caption read on their joint post.

You also would have seen the absolute boulder on her ring finger. There’s no missing it, it’s huge.
What We Know About Taylor Swift’s Engagement Ring
“It’s been rumored to be anywhere between eight and 13 carats,” TMC Fine Jewellers’ engagement ring specialist, Makayla Donovan, told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
Swift’s engagement ring is a Georgian solitaire with a gold vintage setting and bezel around the diamond — the star of the show. Donovan described it as an antique or old mine cut elongated cushion diamond.
Gemologist appraiser Deborah Villepigue told Forbes that the diamond is D colour grade and most likely a VVS1 clarity (or higher). It’s estimated total value is $650,000 USD.
That’s over $1 million AUD.
Goddamn.
“It definitely embodies romance [and] timeless elegance,” Donovan said.
The Georgian solitaire engagement ring design dates back to the early 18th century, an era defined by romance, sentiment and intricate craftsmanship. Donovan explained rings from this period often have delicate settings and an iconic bezel border.
Yeah, Swift’s ring is ticking all the boxes.
“Today, this design is sort of re-imagined for the modern bride, blending that vintage inspiration with clean, more contemporary lines,” Donovan said.
But did Kelce do all the heavy lifting when selecting Swift’s engagement ring?
Donovan said that while it’s impossible to know for sure unless Swift comes out with that information, it’s pretty likely.
“When it comes down to somebody who is as strategic and iconic as Taylor, I think that she definitely would have had a bit of a play in designing her own engagement ring,” Donovan said.
For all we know, there’s probably a bunch of Easter eggs for her next album in the ring. She’s a calculated gal.
It’s not an uncommon (love) story for the bride to have a say in designing her ring these days, anyway.
“We see about 90 per cent of couples coming in and being on the journey together and having that synergy between the whole process and working together to design the dream ring,” Donovan pointed out. “And then the element of surprise comes in from that sort of proposal element.”
“It is such an iconic ring that feels so Taylor, so I think that she definitely could have had a play in helping to curate the design to exactly what she wanted.”
What Does This Mean For Future Engagement Ring Trends?
Swift’s engagement ring is also bound to steer future trends towards that vintage-inspired design.
“When a cultural icon like Taylor Swift chooses an engagement ring with vintage inspired charm… it very much sets a trend,” Donovan said.
Donovan said at TMC Fine Jewellers, they’ve noticed more traditional-inspired engagement rings have been creeping back into the zeitgeist.
“But with this, it’s going to be the catalyst which sort of propels that trend further forward,” she explained.
“There definitely has been this era of minimalism… and now I think the trend is leaning more towards bringing back in some of that rich history and vintage charm.”
I can’t WAIT to see the insane wedding that this English and sport teacher will plan. Swift has officially entered her fiance era.
