The reception to Charli xcx’s lowkey Hackney wedding celebrations last weekend has been one of widespread praise... and a little confusion.
The 32-year-old Brat hitmaker tied the knot with The 1975’s George Daniel at Hackney Town Hall on Saturday, July 19, wearing a Nova Cora mini dress by Vivienne Westwood. After the ceremony, the wedding party walked over to Dalla, an Italian restaurant in Hackney Central, where they enjoyed fresh pasta and a wedding cake adorned with figs.
Guests finished the night by drinking £8 margaritas and smoking £10 Vogue Essence Blues at Ellie’s Bar in Dalston. It was every east London cool girl’s dream wedding.
But you’d be foolish to think the reigning queen of 365 partygirls would stop there.

The clues were obvious when you think about it: the Hackney wedding was a family affair, with Charli’s parents posing alongside the happy couple on the steps of the Town Hall. Numerous close friends were missing from the celebrations, including George’s 1975 bandmate Matty Healy and Healy’s girlfriend, the model and musician Gabbriette (real name Gabriella Leigh Bechtel), who is one of Charli’s chief partygirl compadres.
In fact, the guestlist wasn’t starry at all, which felt a little unexpected, considering Charli recently revived the girl gang with her Brat pack of companions like Troye Sivan, Alex Consani, Billie Eilish and Lorde. Many of the attendees at the Hackney wedding were long-term family and friends, with very few of Charli’s clan present (save for singer Shygirl and photographer Aidan Zamiri).
So you needn’t be surprised to learn that Charli xcx and George Daniel will be having a secret second wedding this summer, which is rumoured to be taking place in Sicily.

An insider who spoke to People magazine about the weddings. "Charli and George wanted the [Hackney] ceremony to feel special and personal, but not over-the-top,” the insider said. “They have been planning this for months and were so excited to finally say 'I do' even if it was low-key. They danced all night. They have such playful energy as a couple. It was the most fun celebration.”
“But the party's just getting started. They have a larger celebration planned for Sicily. They've always dreamed of a big party in Italy. Somewhere beautiful and private, where all their friends can let loose. It will be star-studded. This was always the plan. London was the official wedding, but a big event is happening too and it will be epic.”

So, what can we expect from the Sicilian celebrations? A bigger guestlist, that’s for sure. We can expect the likes of Troye Sivan, Addison Rae, Caroline Polachek, Billie Eilish, Lorde, A.G Cook, Alex Consani, Rachel Sennott, Yung Lean, Dua Lipa, Sky Ferreira, Clairo, Rosalia, The Dare and the entirety of The 1975 to potentially attend.
While Charli’s wedding dress was a fitting tribute to a cult British designer for a truly British wedding, all bets are off for her Sicilian looks. She has recently favoured Ann Demeulemeester, Dilara Findikoglu and Yves Saint Laurent for high-profile events, and her first wedding reception look at Ellie’s bar was Yves Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello.
While designers will undoubtedly be clamouring to provide her with bridal looks, it might end up being something old, not something new: Charli has been spotted having multiple fittings at a designer vintage shop in Bethnal Green recently.

The exact location of celebrations is not yet known. Though the decision to hold their second wedding in Sicily? That was sentimental. “Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there,” a source told The Sun. “It’s incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It’s costing tens of thousands of pounds, and visually it will be mesmerizing. Charli and George said they wanted a massive party and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night.”
Charli said it herself. Everything is romantic.
