Everything announced at the Nintendo Direct September 2025

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.

The September 2025 edition of the Nintendo Direct has come and gone, and it was absolutely stacked – so here's all the best bits that were announced.

We started off strong with some official details on the next Mario movie, and we're indeed riffing on Super Mario Galaxy. As such, it's only appropriate that the games that inspired the film are getting some Switch and Switch 2-shaped TLC. As we're approaching the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., though, that wasn't the only Mario-shaped announcement of the day.

Elsewhere, we got other Nintendo-shaped highlights in the form of a release date for Metroid Prime 4 and a new Fire Emblem game. The third-party news was equally excellent, as Hades 2 got a release date, and we're only scratching the surface of the news there. As if we weren't spoiled enough with Hollow Knight: Silksong and Borderlands 4 releasing.

All told, it always felt like today would deliver. What makes this particular 60-minute showcase exciting is that it was the first proper Direct of the Switch 2 era. While we've had game-specific events for the likes of Donkey Kong Bananza and more indie-focused directs, today was our full-fat Nintendo one.

And didn't it deliver! You can find all the best reveals of the day right below, and past that, you've got our play-by-play of the day to relive the whole shebang.

Everything announced at the Nintendo Direct

And away we go! We've still go some time before the latest Nintendo Direct kicks in, so come on in and we offer some recap of everything you need to know ahead of the stream.

One thing we can already tell. If we get anything from Animal Crossing later today, we may have to thank fans that are using a literal "summoning circle" to make it happen at today's Nintendo Direct.

One of the bigger curiosities going into today's Direct is whether or not we'll get an update on Metroid Prime 4. Partly, as the long-awaited game has been rated in another country only lately. While that doesn't guarantee release date news is near, it has been a fairly consistent signal for other titles in the past.

Another interesting perspective on that. When today's Nintendo Direct was still a rumor, former Nintendo marketing manager Kit Ellis said the event made sense given the Switch 2 games still set to release this year. Or, to put it another way, "Some sort of an update on Metroid Prime 4, hopefully, please, my god."

All that in mind, we put it to you, dear reader:

Another peep behind the Nintendo curtain, former marketing managers Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang have said that the House of Mario is "very good" at curbing leaks from within its walls. Third-party games, though? "Then it becomes much harder for Nintendo to control." Good for a live blog, though. I'll tell you that much.

Some early results from that poll earlier, most of you are feeling good about some positive Metroid Prime 4 news today. An optimistic bunch; I dig it. My apologizes if I have manifested a delay, somehow.

One hour to go!

A good time for breakfast, lunch, or whatever is time suitable depending on where you're at in the world.

Just over 10 minutes to go, team. I'm happy to reveal that some rather chill music is playing right now with some vibey shapes. A good start.

Five minutes, gang.

Here we go!

Goodbye chill shapes, you were great.

Starting off with something Mario shaped here.

Miyamoto is hear to celebrate Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary. Wahoo!

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is, indeed, a thing!

It's in theaters next April, by the by. Lovely surprise if you, uh, didn't see the leaks.

Illumination boss is up. He's chuffed, if you couldn't guess.

We've also got confirmation that all of the main actors are coming back. Yes, that means more Chris Pratt. Wahoo?

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are also getting remasters for the Switch, games fans.

A pretty good start to the Direct, I'd say.

Begs the question. If we're getting Rosalina in the film, who are we casting?

Alrighty. Quick blast of news. Alongside the Galaxy games, we're also getting Mario Tennis Fever for the Switch 2.

If you come to my tennis court, you best be ready for my Chain Chomp.

You're also getting a story mode where everyone takes on their baby forms.

The Mario news keeps coming. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is getting a Switch 2 edition.

Finishing up the Mario portion with news with something Yoshi shaped. A new Yoshi's Island? A remake?

Whatever it is, I love it dearly.

Yoshi and The Mysterious Book! A new game it is. It's coming Spring 2026.

Oh shoot, new look at Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. We are, indeed, living the dream.

So far, we've got various shots at character creation, someone being hungry, and two hanging out after one was found lying down on the sidewalk. All excellent news if you enjoy a Mii. Also, we're launching next Spring.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is up next. A bit of a vibe shift, but we take it.

We've got a release date - January 22.

Hades 2 is up! After a good amount of time cooking in Early Access, this one drops on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 25. We're eating good, gang.

No shadow drop this time, then. Hm?

Oh boy. If you enjoyed the last Kirby Air Riders direct, we're getting another one.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is up! Release date is November 6.

And we're straight into another Dragon Quest remake. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is coming February 5.

We're really cooking right now, huh.

Oh wow, they're bringing back the Virtual Boy for the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2. Fair enough! Virtual Boy Nintendo Classics is coming in February. The gadget needed will be on sale soon, alongside a cardboard version that I imagine will be cheaper.

We also found out that 14 games for that will be released over time.

We're going through another news blast, but one highlight is that Stardew Valley is getting four-player split-screen, mouse control support, and game share on Switch 2. Excellent stuff.

Metroid Prime 4 is up! This is not a drill.

And there we go, the release date is December 5. Well done to everyone who voted that we'd get the news on that poll earlier.

Donkey Kong Bananza is getting DLC! We're off to DK Island to see some familiar faces.

Oh dang, Hades 2 isn't shadow-dropping but the Donkey Kong Bananza DLC certainly is. We're also getting a free demo of the game if you wanna give it a whirl.

Something Pokemon shaped cometh.

Starting off with a deeply cursed Ditto who looks like a human.

So far we see a world where your weird Ditto child runs around and learns abilities from other pocket pals. Game looks a tad Minecraft like.

Pokemon Pokopia! The game is set to release next year.

Pokemon Legends Z-A trailer up next, showing off some new Mega Evolutions.

One more Pokemon trailer cometh.

Pokemon Legends Z-A is getting paid DLC called Mega Dimension, featuring a Raichu with two different Mega evos.

Onto the next one. Danganronpa 2: Grave Despair is getting a remake.

Monster Hunter Worlds 3: Twisted Reflection lands on the Switch 2 next March.

Our one more thing? Resident Evil Requiem has been announced for the Switch 2.

And that's not all. Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil Biohazard are also coming to the Switch 2.

Okay, here's our one more thing.

Ooh! This does look like a new Fire Emblem game.

It is! Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave is the name, and it's coming in 2026.

And that's it! That's a wrap on the Nintendo Direct.

Once more, over to you!
