Summer Game Fest 2026 Recap
With the live stream now only a few hours away, it's worth running through some of the Summer Game Fest predictions that we can expect to see throughout the show.
For starters, we're expecting to see something around Alien Isolation 2 very soon given that Sega and Creative Assembly recently revealed a striking Alien Isolation sequel teaser across social media, including on the original game's official accounts. Entitled 'False Sense of Security', it shows a metal door opening to reveal an emergency telephone several meters away in a dark and stormy night. It's not a lot to go on yet, but paints a scene of lingering dread – can we really trust this solitary source of hope? The setting of this teaser does plenty, though. Will we actually be touching down on a planet, on which we'll be stalked by xenomorphs? And, with that grisly storm, will weather mechanics feature as an additional consideration when it comes to creeping about undetected? Hopefully we'll find out more imminently.
It's no secret that Summer Game Fest mastermind Geoff Keighley and Hideo Kojima are on good terms, with the former having a cameo in Death Stranding, and several key Kojima Productions titles having reveals across the showcase and end-of-year The Game Awards. With Death Stranding 2 in the rear-view mirror, the Metal Gear Solid creator has plenty more cooking.
Namely, OD, his upcoming horror game co-written with Jordan Peele and published by Xbox Game Studios. Revealed in 2022, it went silent until a second teaser in 2025. Given the timeframe, this is likely to be the next Kojima Productions project we hear about. Though it could feature in the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, it wouldn't be the first time a Summer Game Fest trailer teases a deeper dive at a later date.
Hideo Kojima is also working on Physint, a more direct spiritual successor to Metal Gear's espionage action. Announced in 2024 as a PlayStation production, this appears to not be as far along as OD. Typically, I'd expect that to mean we'll hear much less about it until OD is out the door, but with both projects atypically being backed by rival publishers that might not be the case. When it comes to Kojima and Keighley, anything could happen, though I'm trying to keep my expectations in check as a lifelong Kojima fan. It'll be ready when it's ready.
Even though Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 was announced at the end of May, instead of saving it as an Xbox Games Showcase surprise, that doesn't mean we won't see it at Summer Game Fest. In fact, with the reveal itself out of the way, we're primed and ready to get a more detailed look at what to expect, from its ambitious campaign to a closer look at how this year's release will evolve its multiplayer offering. If nothing else, perhaps Hydrobot will be on-hand to share the secrets of Captain Price's increasingly impressive facial hair fidelity.
A man can dream.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has been rumored to be making an appearance during Summer Game Fest. With the project already confirmed as a trilogy, this final game is known to be deep into development, but it's also not technically been announced yet. It feels like Square Enix are at a point where there's plenty in their upcoming release calendar waiting to be revealed, and with Dragon Quest 12 recently re-revealed the stage is clear for something Final Fantasy-shaped to come next.
After Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the third part is set to close out this retelling of the PS1 JRPG epic. With plenty of intentionally diverging narrative beats, we both know what to expect from this new game while also being prepared for plenty of surprises. Just how off-script is this adventure going to get? How many party members will you be able to juggle in combat? Most importantly, what's it going to be called if it keeps the 're-' prefix? There's still time to get your guesses in. I'm going for Final Fantasy 7 Rebellion.
OK. Let's all take in the hopium: will GTA 6 make a surprise appearance at Summer Game Fest, do you think?
We're already feeling the excitement as Summer Game Fest approaches, and it's worth sticking around here to get the run-down on everything announced and even watch the livestream alongside these updates. When you ask? Good point! Summer Game Fest begins at these times:
- 2pm PT
- 5pm ET
- 10pm UK
- 11pm CET
Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards have teamed up with FromSoftware plenty of times throughout the years for exclusive trailers and reveals. Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods, a dark fantasy multiplayer game, was revealed in April 2025, and is scheduled to release later in 2026 – but we've still not seen much about it. Long overdue for more information, Summer Game Fest would be the perfect place for an update. Even if a rumored Nintendo Direct is on its way sooner rather than later, it'd make sense to see it re-revealed here first before we get a closer look later.
RPG fans seem like they might be in for a strong showing this Summer Game Fest, especially if you can't get enough of Persona like me. Persona 4 Revival, the recently announced remake of the beloved PS2 and PS Vita classic, has received a new ESRB rating that might imply it's due a new trailer. Considering the reveal was only a short teaser, any new information about this beloved remake would be greatly appreciated – from how it's adapting the small-town murder mystery vibes, to whether it'll include any Persona 4 Golden content.
Perhaps this is pure hopium, but there's been activity around the long-awaited Persona 6, as well. Recent rumors have set social media abuzz, and mere days before Summer Game Fest those original Persona 6 rumor posts have been met with copyright strikes. This could just relate to activity around the brand, but considering Persona 5 launched in 2016 we're now a decade out from the incredible RPG with no actual announcement or even teaser for the next numbered follow-up.
Given all the rumors and speculation, it feels like Summer Game Fest and the events around it are shaping up to be exciting, and will play a big part in shaping the future of the industry. Where to watch? Well, look no further than below.
Gamescom's Opening Night Live, also produced by Geoff Keighley, has previously partnered with Team Cherry to spotlight a Hollow Knight: Silksong trailer, so it's not completely out of the question they would also partner for a Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow trailer. The much-anticipated DLC expansion for the tough-as-beetle-shells soulslike platformer has plenty of fans asking for more. Even though the developer is notoriously good at keeping quiet, given the nature of DLCs as a format and rumors that Sea of Sorrow might be targeting October we'll surely get some more news about it sooner rather than later, and a summer announcement would make sense. But, maybe I'm just falling victim to more silkposting myself.
Just 30 minutes left to go! I'm always a bit unclear myself whether there's going to be some kind of preamble or pre-show at the various events Geoff puts on, but it looks like... not this time. (Unless I am being tricked.)
So! Plenty of opportunity still to use the bathroom, grab a snack and drink or two, and get cozy before it all kicks off in earnest. Any last-minute predictions?
Maybe the Marvel's Wolverine gameplay trailer just has me hyped, but I'm keen to find out more about the other Marvel gaming projects in the works at the moment, especially given we've not seen many updates for the non-PS5 exclusives in a long time. With both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avenger's Doomsday set to bookend Marvel's Wolverine this year – 2026 is the time for more Marvel news to get out there and shine.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, developed by Skydance New Media, was announced as a project in 2021, with a proper title reveal and story trailer back in March 2024 – which largely focused on the (admittedly impressive) use of Unreal Engine 5 rather than getting into gameplay much. Not only does a WW2-set Marvel adventure pique my interest, but with dual protagonists in Captain America and Black Panther it stands out as a unique take. With Uncharted creator Amy Hennig both writing and producing, this has a lot of potential, but it's just been so long since we've seen much about it. At one point delayed to beyond early 2026, we're overdue for an update.
Marvel's Blade, coming from Dishonored developer Arkane Studios (and published by Bethesda), we know even less about. Though, its reveal at The Game Awards 2023 does make it possible another showing at sister event Summer Game Fest isn't out of the question. Set in Paris, I'd expect playing as Blade dealing with a vampire plague to have some of the developer's immersive sim DNA, but so far it's hard to say for sure. Earlier in production, this may still be a ways off – but I'd love to get more of a sense of its direction with a new trailer all the same. The Marvel calendar may be stacked, but with all these projects coming from different publishers and developers, there's no reason they would have to stagger their announcements.
Just five more minutes to get your groove on to the SGF waiting room music! It's almost time, so lock in your guesses for what's coming up now so you can say 'I told you so later'! As I prepare to update you on all the announcements, please forgive any typos I make because I'm either too excited or my fingertips are coated with cheesy snack dust.
It's great to be tuning in for another gaming event showcase. Especially in a week with additional platform holder events, it's almost like it's E3 again, throughout which I was of course dorky enough to hold watch parties (before I eventually got to attend for myself). Strap on in, folks.
It's time! It begins with a viewer discretion advisory so make sure you're prepared for what follows as Geoff Keighley takes to the stage, sporting a shiny red jacket.
9,265 new games have been released in the first five months on Steam this year, Keighley says. Sounds scary! Highlighting some of the biggest selling games, including Mewgenics and other indie hits.
"Get ready to get wishlisting," Keighley commands. Are you ready? Comment below if you do actually wishlist something.
First announcement. A city street in Paris. Buzzing a mysterious door buzzer in first-person. An old lady greets us, the sister of the American in the third floor. Get out of the cold she says. With an eerie building, this is foreboding. But, we follow her into the dark anyway. Your brother's flat sure is messy.
I should have known it at the 'sister'. WE ARE CLAIRE REDFIELD. And this is Resident Evil Veronica. We're on the hunt for Chris (of course), and are abducted and sent to the iconic prison island. 2027 on PS5, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Why the missing 'Code' for this RE Code Veronica remake? You've got me!
Cuphead's, er, looking different as a news anchor. But, this puppet-based announcement is confirming a new Cuphead game is in the works.
"I have one more surprise," says the news anchor. Studio MDHR is also working on something different: Mighty Cuphead Adventure. It's a retro throwback to the 8-bit era that reimagines some iconic Cuphead action an old-school style. Neat! That makes two games in the works for them. Mighty is coming to consoles and PC, and the hand-animated next Cuphead is also on the way.
Lucy James is taking to the stage to announce something from 20th Century games that warrants the show lights flickering as if lightning was striking. Also coming from Sega, it seems this is our first proper look at Alien Isolation 2 after the recent teaser.
It is someone's "last chance", and seems to take place on a stormy, unpleasant environment. It's a big shift from the first game's eerie spaceship hallways, but looks like it'll have us sweating to avoid xenomorphs all the same. PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC - and you can wishlist it already!
Al Hope (creative director) and Ana Sopikova (art director) take to the stage to talk Alien Isolation 2 and the "desperate struggle" surviving on this planet will put us through.
Keighley puts the spotlight on Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) in the audience, who gives a little wave. No simple hello, his Project Robot is getting a new look. It's his first game in a decade.
Epic Games is publishing Project Robot, and the new trailer opens with the titular robot standing upright in a sandy environment, exploring a desolate world filled with robotic wreckage. A spaceship shaped like his own head hovers above it, circling a big body, implying a big robot will be able to help us move things. Action shifts to a vehicle segment and some simple shooting, and even some SotC-style big mech clambering. Yes, there's even giant mech boxing. Now known as genATLAS.
Next trailer, a slow zoom out of a piece of bird-pottery as soldiers march across the land in a huge column. 24 Entertainment presents this one. Set in Ancient China, action looks brutal and bloody, with lots of cinematic lingering on some violence across on-foot melee and horseback archery. One soldier stands with his boy, overlooking the violence. War is bad - which is true!
"Death," says a character, "before dishonor," as nevertheless he fights desperately in the snow, holding the line as enemy forces attack his home. This is Blood Message, and it seems to follow that young boy looking for answers after his father, star of the trailer, is cut down. Hands-on is at the event!
Stranger Than Heaven next, with Masayoshi Yokoyama taking to the stage from RGG Studio. I've been optimistic about this one as it feels refreshing compared to the studio's relentless Yakuza games. This is a period piece that connects to that series, but has its own vibe and reworked combat.
Now coming out January 15, 2027 they've also announced, erm, Tupac will be in the game?
Now Snoop Dogg, who also stars in Stranger Than Heaven, is taking to the stage. "Snoop!" exclaims Keighley.
"I'm a big fan," says Snoop, when it comes to working with RGG Studio. Snoop says the developers and himself have worked closely with the Tupac estate to put his likeness in the game.
Death Row Games, Snoop Dogg's gaming studio, gets an update. That being that they will have more to talk about in a couple of months.
Haex (said like 'Hex'), an open world action game from devs behind The Division and Little Nightmares is up next - who have formed a new studio, Dead Astronauts.
Robotic narration and strange text introduces the game, which mixes together realistic-looking forest environments with very weird creatures and hulking sci-fi shapes.
What seems to be multiple players run with guns through these spaces, aiming in FPS, trying to grab some kind of mysterious cube and make it out as the environment warps around them. Coming 2027, you can wishlist now - and it's coming to PC.
June 14 sees Dead by Daylight celebrate the big 10, and we get a teaser for what is coming up. Ominous footage with a breathy chant of happy birthday, it seems. We've all be there. The cake, however, I have to be honest, looks a little small for all those creepy, masked guests.
Mortal Shell 2's open beta is now live! This black metal vibes soulslike looks rad, so I'm keen to check that out for myself. But, that's all on that.
Steam contraptions walk through a desert world, and players can stand on and operate them to engage in firefights, running across gantries and platforms (as well as shooting on foot). Sand: Raiders of Sophie is having a server slam now, so if it interests you, looking into that one!
"Is it dangerous, Edward?" We all know that line. Leave Her Johnny, scored by Woodkid(!), features in this lush story trailer for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. We've gone hands-on with this one and it's great, as well as spoken to game developers at Ubisoft about the remake. Check out our Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Big Preview for that! It's still out July 9.
PlatinumGames are back! And tackling a legendary franchise... TMNT! (Yeah, remember they made one many years ago?). Turns out they're tackling The Last Ronin game, an adaptation of one of the series' most celebrated storylines.
Ben Starr struts onto stage. The storied voice actor voices The Visitor in Fortnite, we're told. And, that appears to be what Starr is on stage to talk about, as he talks about the game's new season, Runners, which launches... Later tonight. Chapter 7 Season 3 is almost here, so get ready to jump off the battle bus. You wouldn't want to disappoint Ben Starr, would you?
Bandai Namco are here to talk about "one of the most influential sci-fi franchises ever created".
This CG looks gorgeous. Mechs fight huge alien beasts outside a space colony. The actual gameplay kicks in, and it looks like slick as hell action. Gundam Rogue Orbit is coming in 2027, and it's great to see this anime series get the blockbuster treatment like this, with more than a little bit of a cap tip to Armored Core, I'm sure.
This next game comes from a solo developer, and is about two geese trying to carry their nest with a wobbly physics-based egg through hazardous environments. Sure to induce co-op stress, so check your relationship is going well before you begin. The bright, colorful graphics look great, but the constant goose chatter is a bit grating. Hopefully just for the trailer? That's An Eggstremely Hard Game, naturally.
Veteran devs announcing a brand new game (something we've seen a lot of). A military shooter, from developer That's No Moon, has two soldiers discussing themselves and the state of their world as they ruthlessly combine stealth and gunplay to defeat enemies. Yet, when they're downed, strange sci-fi tendrils reach down to them. What's going on? Is it moon related? "We fight together, or die alone". It's called Crossfire!
These two soldiers come from enemy sides in a conflict, and are thrown together to survive. With 'adaptive cover', the main character shifts her body to match the environment around her, like ducking and shifting to stand behind rocks of varying sizes. Single-player, storytelling games are what this team believes in strongly, they say.
Now, a look at Control Resonant. Shifting the action from Jesse Faden to Dylan Faden, this is embraces melee combat instead of shooting.
This new trailer really gives us a better look at the environment variety in this supernaturally infected Manhattan, with some typically striking visuals from Remedy Entertainment. It's out September 24.
A new game in a 'storied franchise' is being announced next. It's a new entry for the legendary MMO series: Guild Wars 3! You can wishlist it now for PS5 and PC, with beta beginning in Fall 2027.
"The time is right for the next evolution of the MMORPG." Lots of applause. "Glad you all agree," says the developer. It's ambitious to swing again into the MMO space, but with a series as respected as this, they might just be able to do it? I'm excited to see more!
This is where the fun begins. Star Wars Galactic Racer is coming out this October, and we get to take a look at in action. I'm not even going to try to spell the name of the planet off the dome, but hoo-wee this racing looks fast.
A big focus is on Sebulba here - the nefarious rival from The Phantom Menace - though we get a look at other racers too. Lots of pod racing specifically is coming to the fore here for this segment, before showing some other vehicle types. "The golden age of the Galactic age begins now" indeed. Out on October 6.
Another look at End of Abyss, which is looking great - and will be coming out on October 1. We had a preview of this a while back, so check that out, as it comes from former Little Nightmares devs.
OK, a creepy boat game. This doesn't freak me out at all. An FPS, zombies are fused into the environment with barnacles. Gross! Last Harbor, from publisher Tiny Build, can be wishlisted now.
Virtua Fighters Crossroads is our next look, seeing what's become of Sega's promise to revive several classic franchises from a while back. Appropriately coming from RGG Studio, this cinematic trailer seems to focus a strong narrative element which isn't typical for the series.
I'm getting some Street Fighter 6 vibes to this with how it appears to approaching its story, which revolves around screwing over the Chinese mafia. Dare I say it, this is also reminding me of Shenmue which, of course, shares deep ties with Virtua Fighter as the RPG series utilized the same combat engine. It fits well with RGG Studio, as Yakuza was also built from the same bones. It's coming 2027, and has more details to come. I wouldn't have ever expected it, but this has now shot up my wishlist big time.
We're getting MMO core in here with a look at Runescape Dragonwilds next, a third-person action spin-off of the legendary MMORPG series that I spent way too much time playing. It's launching September 15, and is playable in early access.
This strange fantasy world is filled with oddly smooth metal creatures and armor, and our hero must battle through it. Soulframe Preludes, the new project from Warframe! Lots of excitement for this.
A new look at Grounded 2, which is coming to PS5 as well as Xbox and PC, with its new Into The Abyss update coming Aug 11. We quite enjoyed the main game in our Grounded 2 review!
Mafia: The Old Country: Man of Honor, a story expansion to the base game on August 14. It connects specifically to the first Mafia game! Good time to be a Mafia fan.
"I was born to be the collector," says the narrator of this new game, who appears to, well, collect many objects. She has devoted her life to death, she tells us, as black cats watch on from rooftops. Flashes of this mysterious woman show her in a strange hooded cloak. Lots of witchy vibes, and I can confirm it's already lighting up my Slack as the usual suspects get VEYR into this. 1666 Amsterdam is coming to PC, and you can wishlist it now!
Patrice Desilets is here to talk more about 1666, but he doesn't want to share too much in Lynchian style. The prologue is free to download now, he tells us, so check out the '30 minute story experience'. Later this year, it will launch into early access. Don't mind if I do! This looks rad.
DREAMCAST IS BACK AND EVIL!? Oh, no, it's just Saw.
Saw Genesis takes us into the twisted world of Jigsaw, and comes from Bloober Team. We see glimpses of typical Saw traps, before we get a flashback to the war with some gnarly battle wounds. "A sacrifice must always be paid in blood," we're told, before seeing pre-alpha footage of people running through all sorts of large, elaborate traps with bucketloads of blood. You can sign up for the closed alpha now.
CI Games are showing off a new trailer for Lords of the Fallen 2. It'll be out this Fall on PS5, Xbox, and PC, and features lots of cool, varied environments and big beasties, and some gross looking visuals.
A new look at Star Wars Zero Company, coming from developer Bit Reactor who are formed from lots of industry veterans. This tactical RPG looks appropriately XCOM-y, and we get a lot of glimpses of this ragtag squad with different backgrounds doing slick, doubtless meticulously planned action. It's nice to get more of a sense of how it's going to look on our screens when we get to play it. Anakin is here too! Out August 27.
Now for something dark fantasy, with a surprising modern day-set introduction to The Blood of Dawnwalker. A weird, but cool way into a pretty hype trailer for this as-far-as-I-know very medieval-y game, which is out September 3.
Konrad Tomaskiewicz takes the stage to reveal that the saga will lead to a present day adventure. The Blood of Dawnwalker, he describes as an 'origin story'. Is this going Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 mode and leading towards a modern sequel? Unclear, but certainly intriguing.
A new Among Us project and it's... a murder mystery?! Among Us Story: On Guard. Actors from the Among Us TV show take to the stage alongside actors in fancy dress and they call sus on each other. In any case, the idea of a story-driven Among Us game is very cute. This is followed by a closer look at the comedy TV series.
Keighley promises the biggest surprises are yet to come. And I WILL hold him to that, btw.
Aleph has put in a call, and Bawma is demanding 007 First Light story DLC. As it happens, so am I, though I can't say it's the section of the game I was the most eager to see more of. Still, I've been loving the game, so I'm keen for more in any form that takes.
Our Gothic 1 Remake review in progress is live now, and the game is out now as well, as advertised here at Summer Game Fest.
Characters from Cyberpunk Edgerunners will be appearing in Wuthering Waves. Can't complain about more Edgerunners, that's for sure!
Monster Hunter Wilds' first "massive expansion" is being announced, and we're taking to the sky to explore lots of floating ruins! I really enjoyed the game at its launch, though I've dropped off it a bit, so this is a good excuse to return. MH Wilds: Ascendance is its name, and it's coming... 2027.
A trailer for Swords of Legends. We meet a mysterious cloaked man, Kong Kong Zi, Master of Cantrip, as he uses strange tricks and traps to try to rebuff our sword combos. This is a soulslike style boss all right, but I like Kong Kong's theatrical attitude, even if I want a bit more impact in landing these strikes. "Take your time, enjoy," the main character says. I will, as I sip my huge glass of soda, the only thing keeping me going at this point.
When they said loops I got way too excited to see Sonic, but this new Hot Wheels racer also looks pretty swish. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush comes from Milestone, and takes the celebrated take on the toy-car racing into what seems to be an urban open world. Huge twisting tracks.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds announces a slate of updates for Year Two including TMNT and GODZILLA?! AND NEON GENESIS EVANGELION?
Plus Sonic Pico Park, a new indie game with a cute pixel design.
Attack on Titan is getting a new game from Koei Tecmo and Omega Force, Attack on Titan 3, dedicated to telling the anime and manga's entire story from start to finish. Omega Force's previous AoT games have been pretty solid, so I'd expect this to build in a similar direction. Considering AOT 2 came out in 2018, this has been a long time coming.
Monaco and the French Riveria are the setting for Clutch, the debut from Maverick Games. Coming from ex-Forza devs, the racing action looks great, but what's really hooking me is a surprising dedication what seems to be story that focuses on legitimate character drama. Though there is also a grapple hook jump. Spring 2027.
Chronicles: Medieval. "The dead won't rise," a narrator tells us as we look at lots of medieval combat from Raw Power Games. This is a strategy game where "every battle [is] visceral". We zoom out to see some pretty large-scale clashes in action. Early access 2026.
Sea of Remnants, that pirate puppet service game is getting a new trailer with a catchy song. I went hands-on with Sea of Remnants last year, and had a good time battling a weird gorilla in my little boat.
"In a world, in a room, on a shelf." Capcom takes us into the minds of collectible statues and plushies, including a cowboy Ryu and a sassy Leon Kennedy. 'Howdy-dooken' is a very good joke, and I can confirm I chuckled, even though this is just an ad for their store.
Hitman is entering the ring with Wiz Khalifa for a new elusive target. I'm spoilt!
Another look at Palworld's 1.0, a monster-catching action-RPG that's totally not like any other games in the genre. Admittedly, this luxurious CG trailer does look pretty neat as a fish turns into a sword. Like, a swordfish? It's out July 10, which is super soon, and it's neat to see the game lean into doing its own thing over the years.
It's been 8 years since we last saw The Wolf Among Us Season 2, but now we're getting a new trailer! Bigby is back to interrogate the Fables comic cast, and this looks just as slick as the original. Coming 2027.
Also, the original game is getting a remaster for you to either catch-up or replay before then, due Holiday 2026. Plenty of time!
Could go for some Trackside Brew right now...
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain. Walking through a rainy street populated by citizens along a steam train is a definite change of pace, but quickly people mutate into weird monsters and our hero has to batter the heck out of them primarily using machine gauntlets. This does seem like a step up from the original, and I'm digging the denser metropolis setting, and the boxing-style combat does go kind of hard.
A look at Street Fighter 6: Year Four. How has it already been so long?! Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch join the roster. And... Tifa! OK, I perked up.
The dev team have come out on stage to assure us that Tifa will fight in a way that will fit into the world of Street Fighter 6. Materia will even be included in the game, however, as a 'new system'. It also sounds like limit breaks may make an appearance.
Keighley says it's time for the final announcement... "Get ready for the... final battle."
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is here! Sephiroth has summoned Meteor! What are we going to do?!
We see Cloud and co jumping out the airship and running through some gorgeous environments. You better believe Vincent Valentine and Cid are playable this time, and Tifa is rocking a new fit as she lays down a magical smackdown.
Emerald Weapon smashes through an area and looks huge, and we get a glimpse at the other weapons as well.
This is Final Fantasy 7 Revelation!
Cloud promises not to let us down.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi returns to the stage. "I'm back!" he exclaims.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will release simultaneously on all platforms!
Hamaguchi also says that the theme of FF7 Revelation is 'resolve' (erm, why isn't it called FF7 Resolve then?). He says he has carried with him the resolve to carry this through to the end across the whole series.
Matt Mercer is also here! Voicing Vincent Valentine, he'll be a big part of the new entry (huffing hopium right now as I also hope for a Dirge of Cerberus announcement).
Mercer introduces Final Fantasy 7 Revelation with a more laidback look at the game's open world and a recap of the story so far. The Highwind allows the team to explore the planet with ease, and you can jump off using parachutes "at any moment" to descend "seamlessly". That's incredibly ambitious, but it looks solid. Yes, there's some Wutai in there, of course.
Discussing Cloud's party members, we get a look at the evolved combat system that once again merges real-time and tactical elements. "Summoning Ifrit never gets old."
Mercer introduces a special look at Vincent Valentine's combat in particular, the vampiric lord of darkness can use his guns to shoot areas of the environment, and can transform into his beast form in combat. Cid can even jump on his shoulders in this form.
Cid uses his big spear to jab enemies from a distance, or spin it around for heavy AoE attacks. A new FIT system allows you to use new uniforms that unlock new moves - is this a nod to Final Fantasy X-2 with a sort of dress-based job system?!
A look at the Weapon boss battle as well. These hulking beasts seem like real set-piece fights, not too far away from something out of, say, Monster Hunter World.
Wait, there's more? Another FF7 Revelation trailer reveals that it will be launching Spring 2027, and nods towards it as 'episode 3', reminding us that the other two games are also currently available.
With that, the show is over, and what an explosive way to end! What's been your favorite reveal? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. We'd love to hear them!
