Fans of Stephen King and Edgar Wright have been excited to see what Wright is planning for The Running Man. Written by Wright and Michael Bacall, the new adaptation of King’s work stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards. And some of your favorite filmmakers love it!
The film is based on King’s Richard Bachman book. Originally, it was adapted into he 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger but that film is very different from King’s work. Wright’s adaptation with Bacall promises audiences a more faithful adaptation to the King novel and the reaction from creatives who saw the film at a special screening should have fans excited!
Andy Samberg, Akira Schaffer, Taika Waititi, Joe Dante, Patton Oswalt, Jordan Peele, Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Shane Black, Joseph Kosinski, Walter Hill, Daniel Kwan, and more took to a screening of The Running Man on the Paramount Lot’s Sherry Lansing Theater to watch the new film last week as press kicked off for the new movie. And from what has been posted online, it seems as if the filmmakers present loved what Wright and company did!
While social reactions are still embargoed, some of the filmmakers present at the event shared their thoughts on Wright’s work. Including David Dastmalchian, who Wright posted on social media “approved” of the film. And what a group of people to get to see The Running Man with. Others, like actor Patton Oswalt praised Wright’s work on X.
“I can’t wait for you guys to see THE RUNNING MAN. Absolutely blew me away. Not gonna give any particulars but it is HORRIFICALLY timely. Also non-stop exciting, hilarious and surprising. May Edgar Wright never stop making films,” Oswalt wrote. And I have to agree, I hope Edgar Wright never stops making movies.
The Running Man hits theaters on November 14! Make sure to get your tickets today!
