Every UK bank ranked from best to worst - including Natwest, HSBC and Monzo

When it comes to choosing a bank or changing your current one, it can be difficult to know where to start.

There several factors to take into account, including overdraft rates, customer service quality and overall experience.

To help out, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has today listed the best - and worst - banks and building societies for customer service, overdrafts and online services.

On top of that, the emergency £500 interest-free buffer, offered to those affected by the pandemic, is being scrapped.

The annual report asked more than 19,000 customers to score their lender on their own personal experience.

Digital-only banks Monzo and Starling came out on top for both quality of service and online banking, while high street lender First Direct took the top spot for overdraft deals.

Adam Land, at the CMA, said: "These league tables are an invaluable resource for customers to find the best service on offer to suit their needs. By being able to access data on the best and worst performing banks and building societies, people can easily compare providers, driving more competition to improve the overall quality of service.

"These results only cover the initial impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Future surveys will better highlight how customer satisfaction has been influenced by the pandemic."
