Traveling can be costly, especially when it comes to finding a place to stay. Hotels alone can easily cost hundreds of dollars per night. That’s why this travel enthusiast shares a step-by-step trick she uses to help viewers score discounts and deals at their next hotel stay.
Texas-based TikToker Taylor (@taytrox_travel) posts content about travel tips and tricks.
“This 10-minute hotel hack has saved me thousands of dollars: free breakfast, free upgrades, and even sweets. Here’s what I do every single time I check into a hotel,” she tells more than 6,300 viewers.
Then, she lists the steps on how to do this.
“I look up the general manager’s email; either Google it or just call the hotel and ask,” she says. “I send a short, friendly email.”
From there, she details what she writes in the email, including the dates and the confirmation number. “‘I’ve heard such amazing things about this property. We are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, etc,” she says.
But it’s the next line that seals the deal.
“‘I was wondering if there’s anything you can do to make our stay extra special, like a room upgrade, a club access, or breakfast?’” the content creator says.
Although there is a chance they will decline, the possibilities are endless if they accept it.
“Best case, you’re saving hundreds and getting perks,” Taylor states. “I recently stayed at a Marriott and just for sending that email, they upgraded me to a suite worth $3,000 for the week, completely free.”
Overall, she encourages everyone to try it themselves. “So, don’t be scared to ask. Hotels love to surprise guests,” she says.
Viewers praise the hack
“Thank you! I’m all about looking for the deals!” one viewer wrote.
Others expressed their applause by commenting with heart and happy face emojis.
Does this hotel hack work?
Indeed, it does. Essentially, these surprises are marketing tactics to win over guests. HospitalityNet explains that hotels function on a guest-centric marketing method called ‘surprise & delight,’ where a company goes above and beyond for its guests to create positive memories, which in turn translates into loyalty. Word of mouth, positive reviews, and more visits generate more revenue. As a result, happy guests equal more business.
Due to this business model, reaching out to the hotel’s general manager can lead to upgrades if you’re celebrating a special occasion. Traveling Well for Less recommends contacting the hotel directly by phone at the number listed on their website, preferably before 8:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. On the same website, you may also find the email address. After obtaining the email, keep it concise, positive, and reasonable. Since this isn’t foolproof, they may reject your request.
