Every Question I Need Answered In The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie

The Summer I Turned Pretty movie has officially been announced by Prime Video, with Jenny Han on board to write and direct — meaning fans might finally get answers to all the wild, petty, and heartfelt questions left dangling after that series finale.

Here are the chaotic scenes and burning questions that better make it to the big screen — otherwise I’ll consider writing to the Cousins mayor myself.

The wedding scene (or I riot)

“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said upon the announcement of the film.

“I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

Book fans and newly initiated viewers are demanding some sort of Bonrad (Belly and Conrad) wedding. So, if we don’t see Belly running down the beach in a frazzled up-do, shoes abandoned, holding a soggy suit jacket — what was the point of all those Paris flashbacks?

I NEED this line from the book: “We are married. We are infinite — me and Conrad. The first boy I ever slow danced with, ever cried over, ever loved.”

Stalker Christmas photos

Who tf took those stalker-esque Christmas photos that were at the end of the episode and please let it be Benito (Fernando Cattori).

Denise: tech industry mogul or Jeremiah’s plus-one?

Denise (Isabella Briggs) announced plans to move to San Francisco for some video game funding with her business partner and my crush Steven (Sean Kaufman). Denise and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) also snuck in a smooch in the final episode, which in my opinion felt a little rushed. I’m hoping the movie gives us time to develop their chemistry.

I’m not convinced sorryyyy. (Image: The Summer I Turned Pretty)

However, I’d actually rather Denise find herself a fellow baddie rather than a project. So if the movie doesn’t show her ghosting Jeremiah for a round of VC pitches, me and Jenny will need to chat.

Laurel, Adam and John on a singles cruise immediately

My OTP. (Image: The Summer I Turned Pretty)

I lowkey want more of a redemption arc for Adam (Tom Everett Scott) — it was going so well till he turned into a creep with Laurel (Jackie Chung). Also, I remembered that Adam dated Laurel before Susannah, which could be why he kept going on about doing a singles cruise together. Could John (Colin Ferguson), Adam and Laurel be the new love triangle?

Speaking of John, can we please explain why he had heartburn, (respectfully) I still need him to have a heart attack to make good on my theory.

Where do Conrad and Belly end up living?

Did Belly tag along to Conrad’s conference or did she just take the next train back? Did Conrad go back to California or move to Paris for Belly? Does Belly move to California along with Taylor (Rain Spencer), Steven and Denise? We need answers — preferably in scene, but flashbacks will suffice. And if they got engaged offscreen, I expect glitter cannons.

Where is Susannah’s ring?

That engagement ring swapped hands more than any other TSITP prop. In season three, Taylor rescued it after Jeremiah drunkenly tried to pass it to a bartender post-breakup, and it was never seen again.

If Belly doesn’t wear the Fisher family jewellery at her wedding, Jenny Han owes us closure and maybe a Finder’s Fee.

Will Belly ever open Susannah’s letter?

In the books, we are treated to Belly reading Susannah’s heartfelt letter on her wedding day to Conrad (she was handed the letter by Laurel in the show on her first wedding day, but we know how that ended up).

Fans are especially salty that Belly never opened Susannah’s wedding-day letter, so if we don’t get the full tearjerker contents in the upcoming movie, expect group chat meltdowns.

Taylor and Belly’s much-needed debrief

The missing Taylor-Belly heart-to-heart has become a full-fledged grievance. We saw Paris scenes, but no final, cathartic friendship moment. The movie must serve a friendship montage, or risk a “Free Taylor” movement forming on X — because these two deserve at least a debrief of the most bonkers 24-hours in Paris before they lock into wedding planning 2.0.

My forever faves. (Image: The Summer I Turned Pretty)

Unanswered fan questions

While fans are losing sleep wondering whether Jeremiah ever finished his degree or finally moved in with Denise, can we please get a conclusive “where are they now?” for exes and acquantances like Kayleigh (Emma Ishta), Anika (Sofia Bryant), Agnes (Zoé de Grand Maison), and Cam Cameron (David Iacono)? The missing besties and exes have loyal stans online who will not rest until they get their final Cousins Beach cameo or a proper fade-out.

Also, will cousin Skye (Elsie Fisher) and Aunt Julia (Kyra Sedgwick) make it to the Bonrad wedding?

Prime Video has promised that the TSITP movie will tidy up the leftovers from season three and give closure to every fan theory festering in the group chats. With Han writing and directing and Tung and Briney officially on board, I feel at peace that the movie will be everything we need and more.

After all, who am I to question the Jenny Han who brought us one of the most iconic shows of my generation (no this is not dramatic)?

Until then, we have are our memes, our theories, and TikTok edits to keep us going.
