Every five to 11-year-old in Swansea Bay will be able to have the Covid jab in June

All children aged five to 11 will be able to have a Covid vaccination in June. Swansea Bay University Health Board has announced it is planning more jab sessions next month.

They will be open to all those within the age group who are registered with a GP in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot areas. Pfizer vaccines will be given, and they will be offered on weekends at Gorseinon Mass Vaccination Centre and the soon to be opened unit in Aberafan Shopping Centre, Port Talbot. It comes after it was reported that fines for parents not sending their children to school are to be re-imposed in Wales. The Welsh Government has announced that schools can again use fines as a last resort. Education Minister Jeremy Miles announced the change as part of the lifting of Covid restrictions in schools. Vaccination is already in place for children aged five to 11 who are household contacts of people who are immuno-suppressed and those in a clinical risk group. You can read more stories about Swansea here.

The health board said that if your child had already had Covid they should wait at least 12 weeks following infection - from the first day of symptoms or positive test - before getting their vaccine if they are not in a group that is at greater risk of serious illness from Covid. They must wait for four weeks if they are in an at-risk group.
