Everton Women target Swedish defender in series of statement signings

Everton Women are targeting Swedish defender Nathalie Bjorn as part of their show of ambition this summer.

The Blues are working on a clutch of headline-grabbing deals that the club believe will give Willie Kirk's squad the strength and depth to mount a top three challenge in the Women's Super League next season.

Bjorn, 24, currently plays for Rosengard but the ECHO understands that Everton are closing in on her signing.

Sporting and commercial director Sarvar Ismailov and Kirk have identified a list of players they believe will catapult the Blues from their fifth-placed finish last term and into the reckoning for Champions League qualification.

From next season, the top three teams in the WSL will qualify for the competition.

Everton have already made significant progress in re-signing Toni Duggan, who will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the month, and a two-year-deal is being lined up for the 29-year-old.

Ismailov is also understood to have been working on other deals - including one for French winger Kenza Dali who will leave West Ham this summer - with at least six additions expected this summer.

The moves in the market are a statement from intent from Ismailov and Everton who are determined to shake up the established order in the WSL.
