Everton want two more January transfers as Lucas Digne enquiries emerge

Everton hope to add two more players to the squad this month after completing their second signing of the January transfer window.

The Blues have followed up the capture of Vitaliy Mykolenko by adding Nathan Patterson to the ranks on Tuesday afternoon.

Everton are set to pay Glasgow Rangers £11m for Patterson after agreeing a £17m deal with Dynamo Kiev for Mykolenko.

Both Mykolenko and Patterson have been long-term targets for the club, identified by the recruitment department that worked under former director of football Marcel Brands.

And Everton's long-term interest in both players allowed them to move quickly this month to secure both transfers inside the opening days of the winter market.

Mykolenko and Patterson are eligible to face Hull City in the FA Cup third round on Saturday night.

Now, the Blues want to strengthen Rafa Benitez's squad even further with a winger and a midfielder on the club's shopping list.

A winger is understood to be the next position Benitez wants to fill although Andros Townsend is pushing for a quicker return to the squad than expected.

  • Who should Everton keep and sell in January?

Townsend sustained a small fracture in his foot during the defeat to Crystal Palace last month but had, earlier last week, been hoping to feature against Brighton.

The 30-year-old was at Goodison to watch the 3-2 loss but he was not passed fit to play, yet he could be in the frame to face Hull this weekend.

Jarrad Branthwaite was ruled out of the game with a small hamstring issue, while Tom Davies is closing in on a return after injury.

Benitez has yet to offer an update on the availability of Yerry Mina, Fabian Delph or Cenk Tosun, ahead of the FA Cup clash.

Richarlison, last month, was ruled out for "several weeks" because of a calf problem.

It remains to be seen if Lucas Digne will be included in the squad for that tie.

The France international was recalled to the matchday set-up for the game with Brighton having missed the previous three matches following a disagreement with Benitez and then illness.

Digne, an £18m signing from Barcelona in the summer of 2018, is expected to leave Everton this month after a falling out with Benitez, and a host of clubs are said to have enquired about the terms of his availability.

Chelsea remain a possible destination for the 28-year-old given Ben Chilwell has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

Everton are expected to demand a loan with an obligation to buy the left-back, if a buyer cannot be found this month.
