Everton trio earn England U21s starts for crunch clash with Romania

Everton's three England U21 stars have been handed starts for their country for Friday evening's crucial clash with Romania in the European U21 Championships.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin , Jonjoe Kenny and Kieran Dowell have all been picked in Aidy Boothroyd's 11 for his side's second match of the tournament as they look to get back on track.

The Blues trio all started from the bench as the Young Lions threw away a lead against France in their opening match of the tournament to lose 2-1 - with an Aaron Wan-Bissaka own goal in added time proving crucial.

Calvert-Lewin came off the bench late in that game, but has been handed the opportunity to impress from the start this time around after showing good form for Everton in the closing stages of the 2018/19 campaign.

Kenny recently completed a season-long loan move to Schalke and has now regained his place in England's starting line-up alongside Kieran Dowell, who impressed in his spell with Sheffield United in the latter stages of last term.

The Young Lions realistically need to beat both Romania and Croatia to have a chance of qualifying from their group, with only the group winners guaranteed a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
