Everton takeover 'aim' emerges as talks rumoured to have progressed

A consortium looking to take over Everton is looking to have an agreement by the time the squad arrive in the USA for their pre-season tour, latest reports have suggested.

The Telegraph wrote on Wednesday morning that the group, spearheaded by former Manchester United and Chelsea chief Peter Kenyon and bankrolled by Maciek Kaminski, could be looking to introduce themselves to Frank Lampard when the Blues arrive in Minnesota next month. The report claims that those involved in the consortium have met Farhad Moshiri in person, while also having visits to Finch Farm and the new stadium project at Bramley-Moore Dock.

It's claimed that a price in excess of £500m has already been agreed for the sale of the club, with no mention of the current owner retaining a stake as things stand. The report suggests that Kenyon would take up a role with the Blues if the proposed takeover goes ahead.

It is also claimed that the consortium - including Kenyon, Kaminski and American businessman John Thornton - would make funds available in the transfer window within Financial Fair Play guidelines.

At the time of writing, those close to Everton and to Moshiri have largely kept quiet on the progress of prospective talks and the club's stance in the near future. The last official word that Blues fans heard from their majority shareholder came earlier this month when he penned an open letter, following what was a hugely disappointing 2021/22 campaign.

In that message, Moshiri wrote at the time : "I am committed to securing the future success of the club by delivering a fully-funded stadium that will underpin our status as a leading club. Our new stadium project at Bramley-Moore Dock has reached an exciting and landmark stage as it emerges from the ground, with the four main cores now in place.

"Of course, the stadium alone will not help us achieve our objectives and we are committed to not making the same mistakes again including how we have not always spent significant amounts of money wisely."

The Telegraph report goes on to suggest that Everton would be a flagship acquisition for the consortium, with them being drawn to the club's history and passionate fanbase. It is also rumoured that an expansion of the brand in North America ahead of the World Cup in 2026 would be an obvious commercial draw, with the club already making significant steps to achieve that over recent months and years with pre-season tours and numerous events held exclusively for North American supporters.
