Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin withdraws from England squad following injury scan

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming international break.

The Blues star was originally selected by Gareth Southgate for a trio of World Cup qualifiers that the Three Lions are set to play over the next two weeks.

England will face Hungary, Andorra and Poland over the international break - but will now do so without Calvert-Lewin.

The striker has been carrying a toe injury throughout the opening matches of the 2021/22 season, despite scoring in each of his three Premier League appearances to begin the term.

However, the forward also picked up a thigh problem in Everton's recent 2-0 victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The issue forced him to be substituted shortly after he had doubled his side's lead from the penalty spot, and led to to the 24-year-old being assessed before he potentially joined up with the national squad.

Everton have now confirmed that a thigh strain will mean he will stay at Finch Farm over the coming weeks to be assessed by the club's medical staff.
