Everton set to seal first two signings of Rafa Benitez reign

Everton are closing in on their first pair of signings of the summer transfer window as deals for Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend draw near.

The former was spotted in the club's official store near to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon as rumours of a possible switch from Bournemouth grew.

And, on Sunday, further reports surfaced that the Blues could be interested in a potential swoop for Crystal Palace winger Townsend.

The ECHO understands that both deals are likely, but neither have been fully completed as of yet.

Begovic has spent four years at Bournemouth since joining from Chelsea in 2017, and was their starting goalkeeper throughout last term after being loaned out to Qarabag and AC Milan in 2019/20.

Townsend, meanwhile, made 34 Premier League appearances for Crystal Palace over the course of 2020/21 - scoring one goal and picking up five assists in that period.

The 30-year-old has been with the Eagles for five years after signing from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016.

The pair will represent the first signings made under Rafa Benitez since his appointment as the new Blues manager towards the end of June.

Everton have also been linked with a potential swoop for Bayer Leverkusen winger Demarai Gray, although the ECHO understands a deal is not imminent on that front.
