Everton send touching message to Dai Davies after former goalkeeper diagnosed with cancer

Everton have sent a message to former goalkeeper Dai Davies and his family after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The ex-Blues player and Wales international was receiving treatment for cancer of the pancreas at the Royal Liverpool Hospital before being transferred to Nightingale House in Wrexham.

The 72-year-old played for Everton for seven seasons after joining the then-champions in 1970, making 82 league appearances during his spell.

And the club have sent a tweet to Davies and his family after hearing the recent news.

It read: "Our thoughts go out to former #EFC and @Cymru goalkeeper Dai Davies and his family after he was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer."

Carmarthenshire-born Davies also played for Wrexham, Swansea City and Tranmere Rovers before retiring from football in 1986.

His daughter Bethan has taken to social media to express her gratitude of the stories already being shared with the family.

She said [via ITV ]: "Dad (Dai Davies) has had exceptional care at the Royal Hospital Liverpool recently after being diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas.

"Gareth, Rhian and myself are now able to see him daily as he has been transferred to Nightingale House, Wrexham.

"We've enjoyed sharing positive stories with our Dad this weekend.

"Thank you for your messages, but we kindly ask you to pause for now - plenty of time to share again later. He's enjoying reminiscing with us."
