Everton morning headlines with Calvert-Lewin penalty debate and Blues benefit from PPV U-turn

Here are your Everton headlines for the morning of Saturday, November 14.

The Everton matches to be shown live after PPV U-turn

The controversial and much-criticised Premier League scheme to charge £14.95 on a pay-per-view basis for matches not already televised has been scrapped until the new year.

That’s good news for Everton fans, with the upcoming trip to Fulham set to be shown live for free on the BBC. It’s a 12pm kick-off next Sunday, November 22.

The following weekend, Carlo Ancelotti’s Blues host newly-promoted Leeds United. That’s now a 17:30 kick-off on Saturday, November 28 and it’s available at no additional cost for Sky Sports subscribers.

Further details are yet to be announced, but Everton’s Premier League matches against Burnley, Chelsea, Leicester, Arsenal, Sheffield United and Manchester City in December will be available across one platform or another.

Ancelotti’s ambitions key to new Goodison era

David Unsworth’s Everton Under-23s playing with a similar shape and style to Carlo Ancelotti’s senior team bodes well for the future of the club, writes ECHO Everton reporter David Jones .

The likes of Anthony Gordon, Ellis Simms, Jarrad Branthwaite and Tyler Onyango have all been tipped to make the step-up and start making an impact, and the synergy between the youth set-up and first-team will be key to that.

The Under-23s recently put in a good performance with a fully deserved 2-0 victory over Chelsea, and the 4-3-3 set-up bore more than a passing resemblance to the senior side.

"It's something that myself, Marcel [Brands] and Carlo [Ancelotti] have spoken about. We want to try and have a way of playing,” Unsworth told the ECHO.

"It's not set in stone, but certainly when you get to under-23 level you should be mirroring what the first team are doing.

"We've got a manager now who's here for the long term and is so experienced and so good at what he does.

"We speak regularly and those messages are filtering right through the academy."

Calvert-Lewin joins penalty Everton debate

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin decisively struck home a penalty in England’s 3-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

He’s taken three spot-kicks in his career, but none have been at club level. But should he start taking them for Everton as well ?

Darren Randolph had no chance of saving his well-struck effort, his 13th goal in as many starts in all competitions this season, opening up the question of whether he should be on penalty duty for the Blues.

But there are also strong cases to be made for Gylfi Sigurdsson, a regular penalty-taker in recent seasons, as well as South American duo James Rodriguez and Richarlison, who have both dispatched high-pressure spot-kicks in their international careers.
