Leon Osman is set to extend his career with his boyhood club Everton by signing a one-year contract that will tie the midfielder to Goodison Park until the end of the 2015-16 season.
The 33-year-old’s deal expires at the end of this campaign but Roberto Martínez wants to keep the veteran of almost 400 appearances at the club. An agreement is understood to be close on a 12-month extension.
Osman has spent his entire career at Goodison, save for two loan spells at Carlisle United and Derby County early in his development, and was granted a testimonial against Porto at the start of this season.
The twice-capped England international has made 397 appearances since joining the club’s academy as a schoolboy.
