Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford responds to his mistake against Crystal Palace

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has spoken out on his error against Crystal Palace.

The Blues' number one allowed Christian Benteke to draw the Eagles level at 1-1 after his tame shot squirmed under his body.

Everton rallied and went on to win the match 3-1, with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin proving the goals after Bernard's opener.

Pickford did go some way to redeeming himself by producing a fantastic close-range save to deny Benteke a second with the score at 2-1.

Whilst it proved not to be a costly mistake, Pickford was forthcoming on the error - and his impressive reaction to it.

"Yeah, disgusting [mistake]," he told BT Sport after the match.

"It was an unfortunate first goal, I'm disappointed with myself. I think my studs got caught but I hold my hand up for that.

"It shows my character and my mentality because I could've crumbled but I reset and I never let anything affect me. I try to just do my job for the team, that's what it's about, football."

Similarly, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown praised Pickford for his comeback save which helped Everton win the match.

"The reflexes there, it's an unbelievable save," he said.

"We spoke today about mental strength and I thought he was brilliant after talking about how he copes with mistakes because he bounced back there."
