Everton formally release Ashley Williams as ex-Swansea City and Stoke City man reveals offers

Everton have formally released Wales captain Ashley Williams but the former Swansea City centre-back admits he is excited about his future.

The 35-year-old has revealed he is considering offers from home and abroad as he weigh up his next move after the Merseyside club called time on his three-year spell with the club.

The Premier League outfit revealed their released list on Friday afternoon - with the 85-cap Wales international joining fellow defender Phil Jagielka in leaving Goodison Park.

However, Williams, who made 73 appearances for the club, admitted he was excited about his next move - adding he already had interest from club far and wide.

"My agent says we have got good options abroad and here," Williams told BBC Sport.

"I have played here my whole career, it's what I know, but I am not opposed to anything.

"It's the first time I have got to the end of a contract in a long time.

"It's not something I'm worried about - I am just excited to see what comes up."

Major League Soccer outfit DC United have been linked, while former club Swansea City's name will also likely come up. So too will Stoke City, where Williams spent last season on loan.
