Everton fan dies after collapsing during Premier League match against Stoke City

An Everton fan has died after collapsing during a Premier League match against Stoke City.

The 51-year-old man passed away shortly after being rushed by ambulance to Aintree Hospital.

It is understood he was sitting in the Sir Philip Carter Park stand at Everton's home ground of Goodison Park when he fell ill 15 minutes into the second half of the game.

CPR was given by police officers, an off-duty doctor and paramedics before the ambulance arrived. He was subsequently taken to hospital.

Tributes have been paid to the man, who has not yet been named.

Everton said it was "deeply saddened" in a statement posted on the club website, saying: "The thoughts and prayers of everybody at the football club are with his family and friends."
