Here are your Everton evening headlines for Sunday, August 16.
Everton make temporary left-back fix
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is set to use Niels Nkounkou as a temporary fix to the club’s lack of left-back options following Leighton Baines’ retirement.
Baines hung up his boots at the end of last season after turning down an additional one-year deal at Goodison Park, and that has subsequently left a gap in Ancelotti’s squad.
However, 19-year-old Nkounkou, who joined the Toffees earlier this summer from Marseille, is believed to be training with the first-team to fill that void until a viable option can be found in the transfer market.
The switch sees Nkounkou leave David Unsworth’s Under-23s for the time being with an opportunity to impress the club’s first-team coaching staff.
'Celtic midfielder eyed' to address major squad issue
Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham is reportedly on Everton’s radar as they look to recruit midfield reinforcements this summer.
The Blues struggled towards the back end of last season, with just Tom Davies and Andre Gomes fit in the centre of the pitch.
According to 90min , Ntcham is believed to be a target for Everton while West Ham United and Southampton are also interested in the 24-year-old.
The French midfielder is apparently set to cost Everton £20million if they want to prize him away from the Scottish champions this summer.
Famous Everton figures buried in Anfield cemetery
The Anfield Cemetery boasts a rather iconic location given it is situated between Goodison Park and Anfield.
Both clubs have rich history in the city of Liverpool but the cemetery ranks as one of the most poignant places where former figures of both clubs have been laid to rest.
In an exclusive interview with the ECHO, football historian Jamie Yates spoke of his knowledge of 37 Everton figures who have been buried in the cemetery.
From one of the founding fathers of the club, Dr James Clement Baxter, to other iconic figures to have graced Everton’s history, countless former players and club members are resting at the Anfield Cemetery.
