Everton appoint former Premier League forward into key scouting role

Everton have appointed former Premier League forward Jerome Thomas into a key scouting role at the club.

Thomas, 38, has been named as the Blues' Academy Area Coordinator for London - a new role which came last year as part of a scouting restructure.

The position was initially filled by Chris Scudder but he since accepted a job at West Ham United as their Emerging Talent Manager and left earlier this year.

Thomas came to Goodison in January having held a part-time scouting position at Chelsea and will be Everton's eyes and ears in the capital for talent aged under-13-u-18.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Charlton Athletic attacker will report directly into Everton's Head of Academy recruitment Chris Perkins.

Thomas played 155 times in the Premier League, scoring 11 times and laying on 12 assists.

A product of the Arsenal youth set-up, Thomas won two FA Youth Cups with the Gunners but was unable to break into Arsene Wenger's first-team beyond three appearances in the League Cup.

The London-born Thomas, a former England youth international, also played for Portsmouth, Leeds, Crystal Palace, Rotherham and Port Vale in a 16-year professional career.
