Shirts are being ironed and lanyards desperately searched for in bedside tables — the Great Return is underway. While millions of Londoners have risen and commuted to their place of work every day throughout the pandemic, the lifting of Plan B restrictions means many more will be returning to their desks in the days ahead.
We can all play a part in helping to reinvigorate our city. Commuters are vital, but so is the Tube network itself. The RMT union must now call off what would be the longest strike action in the history of the London Underground, which threatens to suffocate evening activity just as the city is returning to normal.
Similarly, train operators need to return to a full service to make it easier for commuters to travel into London. Covid has, of course, not disappeared and we need to remain vigilant, taking sensible precautions. But thanks to the booster programme, Londoners have the chance to experience the full joys of city living once again.
