Evan Reid search cops rule out possible sighting on Scots road

Police have confirmed a man seen walking on a major Renfrewshire road is not missing Irvine man Evan Reid, after several members of the public came forward with information.

Mr Reid, from Irvine, North Ayrshire, was last seen in the Inchinnan Road area of Paisley around 10.05pm on Saturday, March, 25.

The 31-year-old was taking the train home on Saturday night when he appeared agitated and disembarked at Paisley Gilmour Street station around 9.40pm.

He had text his partner Nicole Murray to say "something dodgy was happening" prior to him leaving the train in Paisley town centre.

Police Scotland released a statement on Friday morning saying that sightings of a man matching Evan's description, on Sunday, March 26, had been investigated, and the person traced was not Mr Reid.

A spokesman said: "We have received several calls regarding a male matching the description of missing person Evan Reid walking on the A737 between Howwood and Lochwinnoch around 7am on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

"Officers traced the male who was on the A737 and we can confirm this was not the missing person. We would like to thank the members of the public who called in to report this sighting."

Earlier this week, Ms Murray said the family had been roaming the streets of Paisley to look for him.

Pleading for people to keep an eye out for the 31-year-old dad, she said: “This is completely out of character for him, especially to have been on his way home and then get off at another station.

“Obviously we don’t know what kind of state he is in but this is not like him at all. He has no mental health issues, we just don’t know what’s happened.

“He was in Glasgow on a night out,” Nicole said. “He text me to say he was getting the train home. He said to me [in a text] there was something happening, something dodgy was happening. I didn’t know then that he was on the train already.

“We are worried beyond belief and shocked. I am just trying to hold it together.”

Nicole has a three-year old daughter with Evan and has no idea why he got off the train in Paisley as opposed to going home to Irvine as planned.

Renfrewshire police are urging anyone with information about Evan’s disappearance to come forward.

Inspector Andy Macdonald said: “This is very out of character and concerns are growing for Evan’s welfare, we want to make sure he is safe and well.

“I am appealing for anyone who has seen Evan or who has any information on his whereabouts to contact us.”

Evan is described as being around 5ft 8in in height and of slim build. When last seen, he was wearing a khaki green jumper, a black body warmer, dark blue jeans and grey trainers.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 4112 of Saturday, March, 25.
