Eurovision results as Italy win in Rotterdam and United Kingdom get no points

The Eurovision Song Contest is done and dusted for another year as Italy triumphed in Rotterdam.

After a hiatus last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the famous event returned for 2021 in style and, after the numbers were whittled down in Tuesday and Thursday's semi finals, 26 countries battled it out for the Eurovision crown at the Ahoy arena on Saturday night.

The bookies proved to be spot on with their predictions, with Italy, France and Switzerland all doing well and in a closely fought contest it was Italy's Måneskin who finished top of the leaderboard with their track Zitti e buoni.

At the other end of the table, the UK's James Newman finished rock bottom after a humiliating result that saw him receive zero points from both the juries and public.

While he seemed upbeat on camera, many fans and BBC commentator Graham Norton, have hit out at the score.

Some angry Eurovision fans blamed politics on the UK's dismal result, with one tweeting: "why do we keep taking part and footing most of the bill. This is not a music competition, it’s a political arena. Ours did not deserve nil points!!!! I guess it was all about Brexit"

But others have condemned James' song Embers, with one reacting: "Looks like Germany Spain and Holland scored very low also which might suggest UK 0 was more to do with it being a rubbish song than a sinister plot. "
