Being a celebrity can come with many privileges from glitzy events to great brand deals but a 2023 Eurovision Song Contest host felt the pain of many Eurovision fans as she struggled to get tickets for the grand final in Liverpool. Sam Quek, who is a former Olympic hockey player turned presenter from Liverpool, was unable to get tickets for the grand final despite the fact she is presenting the opening ceremony for the event.
Sam was announced as one of the presenters last month, more on that presenting line-up here, but this has earned her no perks in getting tickets. The sports star posted to her Twitter as she told fans she was also struggling to get tickets for the highly anticipated grand final.
She said: "If it makes anyone feel better... I couldn't get #Eurovision Grand Final tickets...and I'm presenting the Opening Ceremony!" #Ticketmaster" and shared a picture saying the tickets had now sold out. There will be a total of nine shows at Eurovision taking place from Monday, May 8 until the Grand Final on Saturday, May 13.
The UK government announced that 3,000 Eurovision tickets would be allocated to displaced Ukrainians living in the UK, as part of the UK’s commitment to honour Ukraine at the song contest. Sam was born in Liverpool and grew up on the Wirral.
She began playing hockey when she was at school and in 2016 was part of Great Britain's women's hockey team when they won gold, which was the first women's hockey gold medal in the Olympics for Great Britain. Since January 2022 Sam has co-hosted the BBC morning show Morning Live with Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones.
