Eurovision 2023 odds update as Glasgow now heavy favourite to host

Bookmakers have updated their odds regarding the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest host city, and Glasgow has pushed even further ahead of the competition.

According to the latest odds from William Hill, the odds of the city hosting are now 1/2 — strengthening its lead over its closest rivals Birmingham and Manchester.

EurovisionWorld.com, which aggregates the odds from all of the bookmakers, states that Glasgow has a 53 per cent chance of hosting the event, with Birmingham in second place at 18 per cent and Manchester in third at 10 per cent.

An official announcement will be made in the autumn revealing which of Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield will host the iconic singing competition when it comes to the UK next year.

The seven cities were confirmed to be on the shortlist earlier this month after it was announced that Ukraine could not host the event due to the ongoing war with Russia after winning the contest last year. Even before the shortlist was unveiled, Glasgow was dubbed a leading contender by Eurovision fans and bookies.

The cities will now go through to the second and final stage, in which they will be asked to submit a more detailed proposal for why they should host the Eurovision Song Contest. The decision will ultimately be made by the BBC in conjunction with the European Broadcasting Union.

William Hill spokesperson, Tony Kenny, said: “Punters have really latched on to Glasgow over the past week in the next Eurovision host market, with the Scottish city now just 1/2 to host the famous singing competition having been as big as even-money a week ago.

“Birmingham has drifted to 7/2, while there’s been a bit of support for Manchester at 6/1.”
