Eurostar to start its direct Amsterdam to London route in October

Eurostar has announced it will launch its much-anticipated direct Amsterdam to London route on October 26.

The route was originally slated to launch in April but was pushed back six months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Tickets for the service will go on sale from September 1, and will be priced at £40 each way. Tickets can be booked up to February of 2021, meaning you can slot in a cheeky Christmas getaway to the Dutch capital.

Due to the changing nature of the pandemic, all fares will be exchangeable with no fee up to 14 days prior to departure.

This will mark the first time travellers can travel by train to and from Amsterdam directly, as they have previously had to stopover in Brussels for security checks on the return route.

In July, we reported that the Home Office would allow UK Border Force officials to be deployed at stations in Amsterdam and Rotterdam to carry out checks before boarding, as already happens in France and Belgium.

These new border checks will be possible due to existing agreements between the UK, France and Belgium signed in 1993 being modified to include the Netherlands.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said at the time: “This important treaty shows that, while we have left the European Union, our links with Europe are stronger than ever.

“It will enable vital security and immigration checks to be carried out in the Netherlands, protecting the UK’s border and providing faster and more efficient journeys for passengers.”
