Europe Talks brings people together virtually over Covid - how you can take part

By now, almost everyone everywhere knows someone who has had Covid-19. People have lost family members or friends to the virus in Bergamo, Berlin and Birmingham. Loneliness is changing lives in Hamburg just as much as in Hemel Hempstead. And new communities are keeping people together in Liverpool and Leipzig.

Europe Talks is a border-busting new project from the Daily Mirror and Germany's Zeit Online.

As Britain approaches Brexit and coronavirus radically alters all of our lives, the Mirror has teamed up with newspapers and websites in Italy, Germany, France, Poland and 10 other European countries to pair people for a chat across national boundaries.

All you need to do is answer a series of yes or no questions so we can learn a bit more about your views. For example: what is more important, our health or the economy? And should masks be required in all public spaces?

Once you have answered the seven questions and registered, you will then be matched by Europe Talks to another European who has a different view of these seven questions.

Meet ups will happen by your preferred videocall platform (Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams etc) on Sunday December 13th. You will need to be free for a chat at 2pm UK time on that day.

As so many participants will have different first languages, Europe Talks organisers have suggested these video calls should take place in English if possible.

Our special sign up widget will also be appearing in coronavirus coverage and other stories for the next few weeks.

This is a unique moment in all of our lives at a time when, globally, people are finding new connections. Join our experiment and speak to someone with a totally different experience. We have so much to tell each other.
