Euro 2025 kicks off with extreme heat warnings

  • Extreme heat warnings have been extended to cover the first three days of the Euro 2025 women's football tournament in Switzerland.
  • Temperatures are expected to reach up to 35C, with evening kick-offs still seeing temperatures around 30C, such as for Switzerland's opening game against Norway in Basel.
  • UEFA has relaxed security rules to allow supporters to bring water bottles into stadiums and will provide free sunscreen at fan parks.
  • Cooling breaks are permitted for players when temperatures exceed 35C, and referees can also decide to allow stoppages in extremely hot conditions.
  • Norway's English head coach, Gemma Grainger, stated that the weather is not an excuse and will be the same for both teams.
