The European Union voiced on Friday its understanding of Saudi Arabia’s decision to suspend oil shipments through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait after two of its oil tankers were attacked by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
Riyadh temporarily suspended the shipments through the Red Sea strait until navigation there becomes safe.
The European Union is closely monitoring development of events after two Saudi National Shipping Company tankers were attacked by the Houthi terrorists, said an EU spokesman in Brussels.
"Targeting oil tankers in the Bab al-Mandab Strait poses a threat to global trade and shipping," he added in a statement.
