Esther McVey is brutally sacked by Boris Johnson after just months in top job

Esther McVey was brutally sacked from the cabinet by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The controversial MP was only appointed as Housing Minister in Mr Johnson's cabinet in July - but has already been dumped from the job.

The move comes as the Prime Minister reshuffles his cabinet pack following a thumping win in the December General Election.

Best responses as Esther McVey gets sacked AGAIN

Confirming the news today, she tweeted: "I’m very sorry to be relieved of my duties as Housing Minister I wish my successor the very best & every success I’m very grateful to the Prime Minister for having given me the opportunity to serve in his government and he will continue to have my support from the back benches."

Ms McVey, now MP for Tatton, represented the Wirral West constituency between 2010 and 2015.

Born in West Derby, she is widely disliked on Merseyside for her championing of hugely controversial policies like the Bedroom Tax and Universal Credit.

She has also made numerous comments that have prompted criticism including suggesting that it was a good thing that there are food banks in the UK.

She told the House of Commons: "In the UK it is right that, you know, more people are visiting - which you'd expect - going to foodbanks."

More outrage was caused when Ms McVey defended the sanctions imposed on benefit claimants for making minor mistakes, back in 2015.

She told a committee hearing in 2015: "For people who have been sanctioned, that helps them get into work."

During her recent failed bid for the Tory leadership, Ms McVey managed to offend another whole section of society.

Asked about whether primary school children should be taught about same-sex relationships, she appeared to sympathise with protesting parents in Birmingham who said they would take their children out of school if such issues were discussed.

"I believe parents know best for their children. While they’re still children – and we’re talking primary school [age] – then really the parents need to have the final say on what they want their children to know.”

Other cabinet ministers to so far lose their jobs today include Business Secretary Andrea Leadsom and Northern Ireland Secretary Julian Smith.
